Summer Transfer Thread 2019

So your options are

A: Take a huge pay cut and move to a smaller club
or
B: Get a huge pay rise and move to a smaller club

The guy has won the biggest competition in football multiple times, what else could he want? It would be different if he was taking a paycut to try and achieve something he hasn't done before.

You're being incredibly naive.

He's a sicknote that knows he's not that good. Real won the champs league loads, he was a small part of that. Has he won anything in the most prestigious league in the world, his home UK. Nope. He'll be seen as another mercenary that only cares about money when he's still in his prime. Nothing more that a money grabber throwing talent away in a tin pot china league. Imagine endorsing that lol.

Good luck trying to defend that.... because... you know.... money and all that is the only thing that is important?

Because they're one bad tackle away from not being able to play again and have to earn enough by 35 to maintain themselves for what could be another 65 years? A players earning potential is at it's highest from around 25-30 years old as that's when they're in their prime. If he can get these wages in China for a season he could set himself and his family up for the rest of his life. Not every player becomes a Beckham or a Pundit on Sky getting a million a year.

You clearly are new to football if you think Bale is still needing to set himself up for retirement.... jesus christ.

Haha I am sure he will be in hardship when he retires. He already has more money than he knows what to do with it. Just a quick Google shows he has a net worth of 100 million GDP. If he really had a love for football like your Scholes and Gerard's of this world he would have gone back to Spurs or something like that. I would also argue that a Premier League winners medal is just as important as a Champions league medal.

Why? Because he's earning £600k a week? He and his family have likely spent a lot of it on houses, cars etc. Sure he's far better off now than anyone on this forum, but lets say he wanted to start a business once he's retired? He could lose a lot of that. He's won the Champions League more than ZZ himself and more than 99% of professional footballers. He has nothing to move for and sees no reason to take a pay cut.

Realistically he's only going to get a PL winners medal at City or Liverpool, neither of which want him. Chelsea are rebuilding and their talisman has left when they have a transfer ban, yet their fans will still applaud and laud him for the rest of his life. And thanks to said ban they couldn't sign him anyway. Spurs are rebuilding as well after finally spending some money and could be a force in the League. They don't want him either. United won't challenge again under Ole either. Where is he going to get this PL winners medal? Arsenal? Not while their back line resembles a wet paper bag. Any team in the PL that could afford even half of his wages doesn't want him.

You can't be serious. I mean your argument is that he has spent money on houses. An asset. The money doesn't just vanish if you do that you know. He's not even on that much, and still he will be minted for eternity. It beggers belief you can try and defend Bale's retirement plans hahaha. Poor Bale could probably only earn a measly 200k in the prem, how ever will he afford his lifestyle.

If he had any ambition whatsoever he would be going back to spurs to try and win a trophy with them.

They couldn't even win the Champions League Final when Liverpool played the worst match of their lives. No one cares about the League Cup until they're in the final and lets face it, the FA Cup is second fiddle to the League these days anyway.

 Try telling a Spurs fan that.

Literally won Madrid the CL against Liverpool but sure, only a small part. He plays 35 games a season, harsh to call him sicknote tbh.

No one wants him because of his wages. People would be lining up to take him if he took a pay cut.

So he should take a huge paycut to maybe win a medal lesser than the ones he already has. That sounds like a great decision.

Some players and sportsman prefer to take a pay cut for the love of the sport. Jenson Button took a pay cut to continue racing at Brawn GP and won the world championship that year as an example. All this signifies is Bale is being overpaid as is.

Not really, Madrid were willing to pay it and now another club are. I'd love to see your reaction if your boss asked you to take a 50% or more paycut for the 'love of your company'

Its not quite that simple is it. Asking you to take a pay cut from utterly obscene wages to just ridiculous wages to avoid moving to a country that is a complete culture shock and where you would basically be wasting your skills entirely would be more accurate. There are plenty of people that take pay cuts to do a job they enjoy and they aren't getting paid £30m a year.

How anyone can say that Bale is anything but unambitious and looking for a cushy life is beyond me. Its been clear for years that he isn't wanted or particularly liked at RM but he obviously values money far more than football. Look at Ronaldo. I'm sure he could have gone to China but instead he has got to Juventus to try and help them win a CL. He will be the guy still playing at the top level until he physically can't while Bale will be on the golf course of jogging around a pitch in China while everyone forgets him.
