Summer Transfer Thread 2019

Signed anyone yet?
Nah don’t be silly, they still farting around trying to figure out a way to sign Maguire:p

Meanwhile Liverpool whinging about being skint lol. Tbh they don’t really need to sign anyone as they have a strong enough squad as it is.

Yes, but others are moving on.

Someone is touchy! And yes we have, and looks like one more, perhaps two depending on what happens.
Lol. Honestly, I’d love you to get Dybala. Would be great to see him in the prem. Still don’t think Maguire's worth £80m though. Like Zaha. Palace value him at £80m. Absolutely scandalous valuation. The fact that Arsenal, Everton and Napoli have maxed out bids at around £55m should tell them something.

I think it is crazy but he would improve us and we can afford it. In the end we want an experienced defender who can slot straight in so the options are not huge. I saw someone say he'd been left out of Leicester's final friendly so we'll see if something happens.

Well you need someone now, after Bailly’s injury. Leaves you very short at the back. You don’t want to be relying on Jones lol!

I trust the guys at Arsenal to know what they’re buying.

At least we’re buying. According to Klopp, you lot are skint. I feel a slide back into mediocrity coming.

Feel free to quote me in future.

Weve signed a couple of kids, both of which look promising. We have cbs under 18 that would start for Arsenal lol we arent in dire need for anyone.

We also have Chamberlain and Brewster back from injuries and Keita who looks to be over his injury issues.

Klopps hardly going to come out and say we are loaded is he...i mean come on. What hes saying is he wont pay silly money for players like Pepe which is fair enough really.

Does Pepe get in ahead of our front three? No. Therefore he's fighting Shaqiri for a spot.

Genuinely how will Arsenal line up next season? Is it going to be a 442 type deal or 433?

Edit.

Half of Pepes goals last season were pens.

4231 is the expected formation. I think it's what Emery used at Seville.

Laca
Auba Ozil Pepe

Ceballos Torreria

Tierney Sokratis ? Bellerin

Leno

We badly need to get some defenders in. Problem is we do have Chambers, Holding, Mustafi and Mavropanos (Koscielny) on the books but really none can be relied on. For me Holding is the best of the bunch.

And Sokratis isn't that great either really. He's average/good with the big flaw that he gets himself sent off too often.

Can't help but feel Pepe is a bit of a risk; when you pay over 50mil for someone you are basically expecting the finished article, a top player who has been famous for a couple of years at least. It's the sort of buy you expect to have happened in the 15-30mil range, but maybe I'm just out of touch. It gets to the stage where you really do start to question the value of some of these signings. 72m is basically the going rate for a top class CB with prem experience (VVD / Maguire) which would probably benefit Arsenal more than another forward yet to really hit the big time.

This is going to sound a bit weird I'm actually quite envious of Chelsea's position with the transfer ban as it gives them a great platform to use some of their squad players. Their midfield in particular has an absolute wealth of talent, maybe they should try and develop some sort of 3-6-1 / 3-4-3 formation to get the best out of it. I'd be licking my lips at figuring out how to use the like of Barkley, Loftus-Cheek, Hudson-Odoi, Mount etc - it's something I've always enjoyed doing since 25+ years ago at school, coming up with with teams even when faced with hardship. I reckon Chelsea's 3rd choice midfield would stack up very well against most teams 3rd choice.

It's a risk in that he has not kicked a ball in the Prem yet. But this is the going rate for form players of the previous season.

Also the way Arsenal have structured the deal is great. We are only paying Lille £20 mill this summer. With the rest to come over the next few years is really in that light (especially if he helps us get in the Champions League again) it could be an excellent bit of business.

His stats from last season are great. Involved in 49% of Lille's goals. He scored I believe 22 goals with 11 assists. Can't remember the exact figure now but he had a high number of Man of the match awards last season too.

He carried Lille to 2nd in the league.

So in that light you can see £72mill is not that far fetched in today's market.

Arsenal are woeful on the flanks so this sort of end product is going to be great.

He scored 9 penalties out of those 22 goals tbf. Bamba scored more goals from open play then Pepe did. Regardless of the way this is structured you are still paying that fee...this isnt anything new. Clubs always do deals like this lol.

Staggering payment over several years is commonplace nowadays, the way people are carrying on you would think this was some brilliant new scheme Arsenal have just come up with! Gareth Bale was a staggered buy as well in basically batches of 21.3m a year. Why is nobody high-fiving Real Madrid about that genius scheme they concocted? ZOMG got Bale and paid less than 25m Euro up front!!! Presumably because people with a brain know that if you defer payment it means your spending power is reduced in future years.

Heck if you recall even the Rio transfer from what 2002 was paid in instalments (can't remember the exact details but it came to light because Leeds agreed to reduce the amount owed for early payment a couple of years later when they were in major financial difficulties).

Maybe it is a sad inditement of the modern attitude to spending that the actual total cost of something is irrelevant and all that matters is your monthly bill - so 50 quid a month for 2 years is a grea deal but a 500 price tag deemed expensive.

Kept hearing on TalkSport about supposed Arsenal fans saying we'll challenge for the title and top 4 is nailed on etc and was thinking they were making it up. Apparently not lol. We've signed 2 wingers so far and another midfielder on loan. I can't see us doing any better yet. Our defense was a shambles before the Kos situation and it has not been addressed. We need a FB and 2 x CB (if we continue with 3 at the back, can make do with 1 if not) before I'll even consider a proper challenge for top 4.

EDIT

As above, I thought instalments was a pretty standard thing in football transfers and had been for years.

Yep, you've summed it up pretty well. As Liverpool have shown just getting in one world class defender can radically improve a team. Man City would not have won the title without their world class defender. ;)
