Summer Transfer Thread 24/25

Not sure this will affect the deal, but the mayor of Marseille isn't happy about Greenwood.

Marseille mayor Mr Payan told French radio station RMC: "I do not want my club to be covered in shame. I believe he cannot have a place in this team."

He said he would ask Marseille president Pablo Longoria not to complete the deal.

Assuming it goes ahead then it's a decent deal for us.

I’m sure if it doesn’t go ahead, one of the Italian clubs originally in for him will snap him up. May mean a slight reduction in fee, but surely they’d rather that than the saga rumbling on.

I wonder who will be the Karel Poborský transfer from the Euros this time around?

A spectacular goal result in a transfer to a big team?

Guler - Already at RM
Yamal - at Barcalona
Saka - at Arsenal

Funnily enough, all their goals are very similar, all left foot, all outside the box into the same area of the goal.

The only player that I can think of is Olmo who is at Leipzig but they are hardly tiny tiny team and in the CL.

Apparently Olmo has a €60m release clause but it either expires today or expired yesterday. You'd have to say, in today's market, that's almost cheap for a player like that. Not sure if anyone lodged a bid though.

Yeah, its been a bit underwhelming in terms of players making a name for themselves in the tournament and getting a lot of transfer attention as a result, the two standouts have probably been Olmo and Yamal, but Yamal is already at Barca and probably has something ludicrous like a £1 billion release clause. Olmo is more viable for transfers but its not like he is a young player who has burst onto the scene in the tournament. I'm still actually amazed at the stat that there hasnt been a single goal from a free kick in the whole tournament, thats got to be some sort of record.

No chance now Ronaldo isn't there either now :p

It's a shame he's so injury prone.

First signing of the summer confirmed (by Romano) Zirkzee. Club also confirmed that RvN and Hake are joining as Assistants to ETH with Van de Gaag and McCarthy leaving. Seems like McClaren is staying as first team coach.

Probably a good idea. If we have a few Dutch players we should have someone that speaks the lingo. McClaren is a no brainer for that.

Staggered payments over three years too to avoid one big outgoing… we’re actually being smart! It’s sort of mind-blowing!
You know you’ve been doing this forever, right? In fact Utd owe other clubs a small fortune in instalments on historical transfers. For 6-7 years Utd have spent more than they could afford to and relied on transfer debt to fund it, leading to Utd owing other clubs circa £300m iirc.

Ah, I stand corrected then. I just felt this time it was done with more business sense and ‘reasons’ in terms of it helping avoid such a large chunk of our smaller budget being spent. Maybe getting caught up a little in all the positive (for once) announcements that have been coming out recently.

It happens all the time. I remember when Arsenal fans were wetting themselves with excitement, thinking they invented staggered payments when they signed Pepe for £70m.

As fees have risen more and more clubs have relied on these sorts of deals and it’s starting to get out of hand. A number of clubs now owe hundreds of millions on transfer fees.

Well, good thing we have bodies in place to keep these things in check... right? ;)

Pleased with Zirkzee, definite potential there and fairly sensible money. Hopefully he'll do well.

Really not much choice out there when it comes to strikers...
