**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Try reading what he actually said Rotty, what he says is probably right though, you'll not repeat the success you had last season and Chelsea are the main title threats. :p

Let's see how Rafa 'I only talk about my team' Benitez responds to it. ;)
The fact he's talking down Liverpool and talking up Chelsea this early suggests he's all too aware who the main threat is this season ;)

Yeh but you need a decent back up RB - Eboue is that man but its an added bonus he's liked by everyone! It comes down to whether he is happy to sit on the bench. Only he can answer that!

I did say I hope he stays for backup cover :p

I hope Wenger is looking around for real CB's. I really hate it when we rely on moving players out of position to cover. I think its fine upfront with them being about to play in different positions but I would prefer the back four knew their positions and stayed there.

I'm happy for Senderos to be going elsewhere, he has always been too slow and one season in Italy isn't helping that.

There will be a couple of defensive signings before the window closes ....and probably more offensive power lol :D

Is there a Championship, or 'wtf is going on with Newcastle' thread, seeing as the Championship is kicking off on Friday/Saturday? Hope someone has told Ashley the Championship starts a week earlier than the Premiership :D

I very much doubt it's a straight £20m deal. Reports in Italy over the last couple of days have been reporting it at ~£15m up front with a few £m in add-ons.

Just imagine if Parry was still in charge. Real would've got Alonso for peanuts and we wouldn't have concluded the deal until it was too late to sign a replacement.

30 million peanuts for Alonso? 4 weeks till the end of the transfer window not long enough to sign a replacement?

It's been obvious for weeks that Alonso was going so the work to get a replacement should have started then, or alternatively if your squad was strong enough to begin with you would already have an adequate backup.

He was saying that had Rick Parry still been at the club handling the transfers then that would have happened. Without him we've got a great price for Alonso and managed to do it while agreeing a deal for his replacement.
