**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Not really all that happy at a total cost of £20m for Aquilani, seems a touch too high. Although having said that, we got more for Alonso than I would have paid, so I guess it all balances out in the end.

Hopefully this isnt the end of our spending, wouldnt want us to sit back now and say "right, thats it..got one in for one out". Want to see us flesh the squad out a bit more yet.

Aquilani has the potential (and time) to be a better player than Alonso, but I still have my doubts about his injuries and ability to adapt. Of course I'm quite happy to be proved wrong :)

To be honest, I'd want another forward. Ngog is still rather young, although I doubt we have enough cash to fund a move for another striker. Otherwise I'd like to see babel playing on the right and Kuyt being used as our second choice striker,

I agree...I also wouldnt mind another forward. I really wouldnt mind seeing how much we could get Van Nistelrooy for...or even if it would be possible. Old I know, but I bet he would guarantee you a dozen goals.

Another one I would be interested in seeing would be...(some of you may need to look this guy up), Edin Dzeko. Dont know how much he would cost, or whether he would work out in the premier league, but if he was reasonably priced I would be interested to see if he could convert his goal scoring to the english game. Trouble is that he very recently signed a new contract and AC Milan were unable to lure him, so not sure that it would be possible (one to keep an eye on though I think)

He was saying that had Rick Parry still been at the club handling the transfers then that would have happened. Without him we've got a great price for Alonso and managed to do it while agreeing a deal for his replacement.

Sorry mis-read it :o

Looks like Jozy Altidore is joining Hull and not us :( from his Twitter:
"Press confrence tomorrow at 2 30 stay tuned!"

"First match is against chelsea subject to a work permit *wink* *wink* lol thanks for the support and love keep it coming."
Oh well :(

and for less than expected. bruce said he we had opened talks with Lucas neil as well

would be a good experienced defender for us

I still think we might get cattermole as well..just a feeling

What I said a month ago, wanted around 4m but very unlikely when his contract is due to expire and we risk getting nothing :(

I would rather keep him and have him help us get promoted then lose him on a free than sell him for £2 Million.

At least there is a chance he might sign a new contract if we go up.

Agree with that. I think that it will all come down to whether he stays fit; if he misses half of his first season here, then he won't adapt, and we'll be selling him in a couple of years time at a big loss. If he adapts quickly he could be a great buy.

Hold on, has Benitez just taken a risk?
