**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Yeah, I noticed that before. It went from a general feeling of "he's signed apart from the medical" to "we have permission to talk to him". Maybe it was just a bit of over excitement from the web team.

I guess it's just some minor formalities. The fee's probably been agreed and we've just got to agree how it will be paid etc.

You can't call that a bet.... even Levy can't turn **** into gold :D

Seriously though I still the boy could come good if he knuckled down.

Harry says he's still very much in his plans, so I wonder if he will try what Jol was doing and get Lennon playing on the left and have Bentley on the right?

Therefore finally getting Modric playing in his best position in the middle of the park with Palacios alongside him to do enough dirty work for the both of them. :p

I quite like having Lennon on the left. He doesn't try and beat his man as much but tends to get a better cross in.

His goal in pre-season came from him being on the left too.

Interesting comment about Modrics best position, from what I've seen he seems to be making the free role down the left his own.

Lennon just needs to use his left peg a little more. I've heard Gus Poyet going on about how good his left is in training but he doesn't have the belief in himself on the pitch. If he can even put a little bit of doubt in a defenders mind on which way he's going to go he'll be dynamite. He can just fly into the box, shot at or across goal... anything just mix it up!

My only worry about Wilson the Warrior is how many bookings he'll pick up trying to beef up our wimpy midfield on his own....

Bentley doesn't have the pace to get in behind and join up with two ickle strikers for passing and shooting in the box, that was never his game. He's a beckham carbon copy, can't go round people, no pace, but pass to him in the right place and he's got a great delivery into the box. There was just no one to cross to last year so you can see him being used a lot more as they ask a very different role of him. If the right back can play well like Neville did, run the overlap and create the space to get Bentley the ball in a dangerous area and they could do well.

With Lennon's utter turd delivery he suits cutting in and getting close enough for a shot/short pass so would work better on the left and coming into the box on his right foot than vice versa.

Bent is actually good and scored quite a lot, he's worth over £10mil with other strikers moving for similar amounts, Bentley didn't get games let alone play well last year, no way you could recoup that cash(barring Pompie actually getting their billionaire finally and being desparate for players).

Personally (and this is coming from a Man Utd supporter who really likes Modric and wouldn't mind him being the next we nick off of the yids) I think Modric unless played in a midfield 3 would be far too big a risk to be played centrally in a two even if he is partnered by someone like Palacios who's only role in the team is to break up opposition attacks.

I think Modric is flourishing out on the left wing given the license to roam about the pitch and Spurs would be crazy to move him from there.

Leave Lennon out on the right also, he's finally starting to add end product to his game.

After tonight's game I hope to god almighty that the Silva to United rumours are true, he had an exceptional game

Well I took the boy to the game tonight and I was impressed with how Silva moves the ball around. The problem is he never really had anyone pushing on him either from defence or midfield, so he was bound to look good. In a game where it mattered, I doubt he would look as good.

As much as a good player he undoubtedly is, I don't think he is what we need right now. Fergie better be bang on about Hardcheese coming back because if not we will struggle against the top teams. Not because of the loss of Ronaldo but because the midfield is too lightweight. Carrick is a good passer of the ball and can be utilised in defensive duties because of the positions he takes up when we haven't got the ball. But were missing someone who can just nip in and nick the ball and play some nice easy passes at a high tempo.

Not sure how true this actually is but interesting and shows how easy it is to twist figures depending on which side of the fence you sit.

If you can't be bothered reading that, apparently we made a £5.5m profit on Bent and we only actually paid Charlton £12m for him, not £16.5m (not suprising considering he was a flop basically). Compare that to Sunderland reporting they paid £10m for Bent and it actually looks like we lost £6.5m!

So was it +£5.5m or -£6.5m.... only the the small matter of a £12m buffer lol :D

Oh yeah! I remember that agreement to pay the final fee quicker.

It was indeed £12m that we ended up paying for him.

That would sound ok but the fact he has been on 50k + for years, profit would have soon gone, cant believe you guys are 'appy with 'arry and C and D

"You will never get a better chance to win a match than that. My missus could have scored that one"
Harry will win nothing, jump ship masterl

Rosickynote is out for 6 weeks for arsenal, season hasn't even started yet. I predict van persie next and then cesc. I just put a bet on that man city don't make the top four I'm starting to worry now.
