**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

From what I heard Bent's fee is closer to £10-12m cash, the rest pending on performances.

Rosicknote has done his hamstring, so it's pretty much a given that Arshavin will be starting the season out wide given the fact that Nasri is out too. Will be interesting to see who starts on the other flank, I really hope we don't see Eduardo or Bendtner stuck out there.

Could be a make or break season for Diaby I think, I wasn't overly impressed with his performances last season so he needs to really kick on this time around if he wants to establish himself.

You know i've been pondering while on holiday, I've now come to the conclusion that Alonso possibly is better than Carrick. Aquilani on the other hand... ;)

back soon xx

Traore is poor defensively, looked very out of his depth playing LB when I've seen him.

As for Merida, I didn't think he was superb in the Emirates cup, he had a couple of good moments and that was it. Whenever I've seen him play he's always seemed to drift in and out of games and lacks composure at times, there was one time at the weekend when he really snatched at a shot.

All seems to have gone quiet on the Senderos front.

Thats all I see from Traore, lazy/stupid defensively, against one team or another, despite easily being able to outpace the winger he just assumed it was going out and the guy outran him and got the cross in. Its that lazyness in defence that will cost us, he should never play there. He could be a winger, but he'll never be close to first team, is he going to play instead of Nasri, Arshavin, Eduardo, Vela, RVP, Bendtner, Wilshire, Rosicky, not a chance so why not ship him off already.

Merida WAS superb in the Emirates cup, he was involved all over, he was winning the ball back, getting back, drifting everywhere getting involved in most of the play very well, lots of very clever passing, one snap shot going wide is just a little overly critical.

I'm getting so bored of Arsenal fans who seem to jump on any mistake a player makes whatsoever. Trying to do something means you'll make mistakes, Hleb never tried a damn thing, so never made mistakes, same goes for other players with their high pass rates etc, most of those regarded for their lack of mistakes are simply players who play it so safe they aren't a danger. I'd take a player who makes mistakes trying to win everything, than doesn't make mistakes but doesn't try.

Great players, infact I've never seen a great player afraid to make a mistake..... thinks back to the Henry/Pires penalty, they laughed it off and went on being the best players around. Henry wasn't actually that accurate, he missed a LOT of chances, but because he was never shy of shooting he still got goals and loads of them.

Yep that's his "I've just moved from a relegation battle in the Championship club to a European chasing Premiership Club whilst trebling my money face"

- miserable git :D

To be fair I don't think I've ever seen him smile.

On the Newcastle forums there's pictures off facebook of the players at house parties and stuff, and in all of them Bassong sits in the corner in a strop. :p Good footballer though.

Chose their words carefully there. Like Agger, Gerrard etc with their new contracts (although they have all since signed theirs); all it says it that he's agreed a 5 year deal, nothing about signing anything yet.

I see your point, but its being reported by all the news outlets as being signed.

To be totally honest I didn't take much notice of him at Newcastle at all. Haven't heard a bad word said about him though, many to seem to rate him and apparently he's very quick, a few Spurs fans saying they remember him outpacing Lennon a few times! Big strong athlete at 6ft 2 so sounds promising.

Newcastle has probably been the best club for us to sign players from aswell, so omens are good so far :)

For the record i think the guy Liverpool have signed could turn out to be a good signing BUT......

If Man Utd had signed a midfielder with a bad injury record, for £20m, to fill the gap of a £30m player, who passed a medical but is out for the first 8 weeks. for £20m if i didnt mention it.

How much stick would United fans have got???

Yet we take a punt on Owen as a third striker and pocket the £80m???

Hmmm..........

This isnt a pop at Liverpool but it shows how circumstances can be manipulated.

Yeah he's fairly pacy. Some of his tackles are immense as well like when he clattered Kenwyne Jones in the derby. His biggest attribute is probably his technique in my view though, he's got a better touch than most midfielders.

Downsides is that his positioning isn't great and gives away too many fouls, he'll probably grow out of that though.

I don't think it would work, as Lucas, although I consider him to be a decent player, is different to Alonso, and so our play would be different. Also, he just can't play those 50 yard balls alonso could

Aqualini hasn't been bought to play 50 yard balls at a slow pace like Alonso did so greatly last year so putting Lucas in for a few games won't change that much when he is fit/ready to start.

Don't worry, the haters/spiteful/jealous people will all be slithering out from under their rock over the next few weeks! It's only standard ;)

I think if anyone really knew anything about him, there might have been more said. I expect everyone will wait to see if he actually flops before trying to rub it in....

Also, looks like we've had a "verbal offer amounting to £6m" turned down for Michael Turner.

I though Merida looked ok w/out really being anything special, he really needs to play at another club on loan for a bit. Wilshere is far more advanced/polished as a player than Merida at this point, i just can't see him getting much playing time again this season.

 Yet you're probably the most pesimistic gooner on these forums, you could probably challenge anyone anywhere for gloom.

Pessimism isn't a problem that I highlighted was it, likewise I'm the most positive about the majority of the squad and the only Arsenal fan on these boards, afaik, who thought we could/should have challenged last year had we dropped 3/4 players and started others who rode the bench all year.

As I said, I'm fed up with players who only nitpick to decide a player is worthless, in a preseason game Eboue was left wing and Rosicky tried to play into space but it hit Eboue basically in the back as the ball was too hard and should have been over the top. Somehow this was changed a solid performance into a terrible one because Eboue was unable to control a hard ball at hip height coming from directly behind him.

Merida had a SINGLE poor shot and somehow that sums up his performance as crap. Gallas got upset/frustrated ONCE and sat down AFTER THE GAME and now most Arsenal fans have decided he's constantly at risk of ruining a game by throwing a paddy and isn't good enough anymore. Toure had 2-3 bad games after back from Malaria, despite having the best season defensively of his career the year after Arsenal fans remember the 2-3 games and decide, he's not good enough anymore.

I don't dislike Song, Denilson or Diaby, all being put in the deep end and being made a joke of, but they simply aren't good footballers though two of them put in a lot of effort and work. Other people simply wrongly attack/criticise peoples characters constantly and falsely.
