**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

When was he a very good player!? I remember him having a couple of good games for Blackburn and being one of their better players, but he was never very good.

In his last 2 seasons at Blackburn (73 league appearances), he scored 10 goals and got 22 assists. He is one of the best crossers in the league IMO, though this season is pretty much make or break for him. Personally because of lack of European games at the Lane this season he's going to struggle to start many games because of Lennon.

As mentioned before he has been living the "playboy" lifestyle, which culminated in the drink driving escapade the other day. Hopefully that will be a wake up call and he will go up a gear.

Time will tell.

:)

I stand by my point, Bentley has had one good season in five, and thats the season Spurs paid stupid money for him.

Jenas, top 6 player, you obviously believe that, even most of spurs fans done believe that.

Note the word 'particularly', we will surely be weakened by losing a first teamer, but not as much as a club losing a "superstar" who raises the bar of the entire club.

You would still be weakened, as much as any other team losing a player.

He's had 2 good seasons in 5 actually, both coming before last seasons disastrous one. :p

As for Jenas being top 6 quality, Spurs finished 5th 2 seasons on the trot with him an almost ever present in the middle. You can certainly argue the league has got more competitive since then, but he'd probably slot right into Villa and Everton's first 11 even now.

Quote me where I said that.

Here?

Spurs are just as weakened (actually more so due to not as much strength in depth as the top 4) by injuries. Could Spurs have coped with the defensive injuries United have now?

Now without a stand out player(s) we aren't particularly weakened by a long term injury

Can the same be said for Liverpool (Gerrard/Torres) or even Man Utd (Rooney), Arsenal (Fabregas/Van Persie), Chelsea (Lampard/Terry) for that matter? :p

Indeed.

From you too. ;)

What else did you say in that reply that I failed to quote ?

You suggested Spurs would not be affected by a long term injury, where the top 4 clubs would be. Which is simply not true.

*Bangs head*

Spurs replacements are stronger then the top fours ?:D

Other then your starting eleven, you're very average. Which could have something to do with you not breaking in to the top four, Good team when all are fit, average back up. The top four have excellent first teams and good back up.

I wouldn't say your replacements are stronger at all. You have a big squad of mostly average.

This is the beauty of football debate, differing opinions. Also my comment was a huge generalisation as some players will be better than other in comparison to the top 4 teams back ups.

Take Arsenal for example, they have creative players by the bucket load but lack any sort of good quality defensively minded midfielder.

Man Utd's backup CB's leave a lot to be desired, Johnny Evans and Cathcart are decent but I'd certainly rather have Dawson or Bassong (assuming Brown is at RB).

It is a generalisation and not an absolute statement, Spurs have a big squad of better than average (whatever average means).

Oh and I'd like to thank Wenger for recommending Palacios to Steve Bruce. :D

I had most of the Liverpool, Arsenal and United fans discussing how we could do well with only Visionary really putting us down.

I leave and come back to see they've all turned on us.

What happened!? :p

The point was made that we couldn't handle the defensive injuries that Man U have.

Well, erm, we kinda are right now.

We have Woodgate and Dawson out and King only fit to play when the moon is fat and the Judderman comes out to play.

If we hadn't signed Bassong, we'd be screwed all together.

And we now also have Gomes injured so have had to recall Button as backup for Cudicini.
