In this day and age you need 4 top quality strikers to compete
How many teams have four top quality strikers?

Of course he's an out and out goal machine!
In his first season in England he's scored 16 with a bit part role, he could easily be a 20+ goalscorer when he's first choice.

I don't think we'll ever go back to 4-4-2 with Fergie, either it's not in his mind set or it's not part of the modern game any more. No team will ever have 4 top quality strikers (well maybe the billionaire funded ones will.
It's just too difficult to keep them all happy, we were fortunate that we had Solskjaer who was content being a bench impact sub.

Regarding Berbatov contract talks are due very soon with him not having long left on his current deal so I guess he could be sold but tbh even if that happens I expect us to line up in a 4-3-3 next season meaning we'll only be playing with Rooney anyway
Someone mentioned line-leading strikers but it seems Berbatov isn't very popular on here with some fans. How come?
He doesn't really lead the line though does he.
I don't watch Utd enough to say, but he always seems to score goals even if he's sometimes criticised for not working hard enough.
To be honest he's barely played lately though, got to be pretty demoralising to be rewarded for your best season at the club, being top scorer in the league....by being dropped.
Leaving Rooney and Hernandez, neither of which are line leading star strikers despite scoring a fair amount of goals between them.
SAF is quoted as saying Utd will be buying "two or three players" in the Summer...... so that could still mean anything lol - I just hope that if it is (only) 2 or three, one isnt the guy from Southampton , Alex Chamberlain is it?, as he is more for the future rather than right now. With a gk which is a definite, that leaves one outfield player being bought for the 1st team which imo isnt enough (given the 5 or so players we are going to lose)
Admittedly a home game against a mixed side (ie not completely senior) in a competition that isnt 1st priority - but I wouldnt be surprised seeing Rooney being deployed centrally in the 2nd bank of 3 like in the Arsenal FA Cup game (and probably what could happen in CL against Chelsea)
something like
De Gae
Rafael Smalling Vidic Evra
Fletcher - Rooney - Carrick
Valencia Chicarito Nani
With one or both of Fletcher or Carrick being sold or used as sub and a decent young midfielder coming in to the 1st team (Pastore would be amazing but cost will put Utd off Im sure - edit actually he probably wouldnt fit in that formation but good quality box to box player)
Is playing in the hole really midfield though?
Also worth thinking about that with two back to back American international comps next summer, its possible Chicharito may not be used much at the start of the season
laughs at the possibility of Rio being available for most games
