That would suit me right down to the ground, if utd splash 18 million on De Gea and Arsenal sign Buffon , then it means we get to keep hold of Reina :D

The Independant this week had done a statistical analysis on the remaining games of the season - and Liverpool came home 4th, so no need to worry:)
(tongue firmly in cheek of course lol)

They reckon it will end up

Man Utd (83 pts)
Chelsea (79 pts)
Arsenal
Liverpool
Spurs
Man City

Im pretty sure the order is correct - points might be slightly out though

edit - reports saying Utd have bid £17.5m for De Gea (didnt realise his nickname is Van de Gea lol) with a release clause at 20m euros .......which just happens to be £17.6m lol

Wonder how long before people start referring to them as De Gay and Buffoon :D

I think 4th is a mighty tall order, but then if Utd and Arsenal go elsewhere for their keepers it wont matter and we can keep Reina, which is all I care about. As long as we keep Reina I dont care who Utd and Arsenal stick between the posts :)

sorry to just but in on here guys been a long time but got to ask the man utd fans what they think of the players were being linked with and the sense in signing them ?

just read tto day that atletico turned down £17.5 million for De Gea and we are supposedly going back wih an improved bid ?

then further on i read arsenal are looking at siging Buffon who is available on a free transfer come the summer ?

same as the other day we were linked with a defender who was going to cost X million amount of pounds and I think arsenal again were linked with Mexes who is available on a free come the summer ?

now personally speaking here I would like to see fergie spend money I really would but on some of his past young singings I would prefer for us to go for proven players, both mexes and buffon would fit that bill, thoughts ? On top of this it should free up at least transfer funds to sign a class midfielder or two that we need, such as de rossi, gourcuff etc ?

Firstly Memphisto

Secondly, I would take De Gae over Buffon and I think Fergie will as well, he wants a settled keeper that will be here for the long run, Buffon isn't getting any younger.

Mexes would demand a massive amount in wages I imagine and going off the quotes from Fergie, he's again looking for younger players.

Assuming this is just because hes a pool player right?

Any idea who the other 2 players united are looking for?

Yes, I'd be pee'd off if it went the other way so don't particularly want to take a player you don't want to lose.

Buffon (it was phone auto correct before) is good but is injured loads these days.

De gea has all the potential in the world and if he comes good then we could get almost 20 years out of him.

Aside from that I'd assume that we'd be in for at least 1 starting midfielder and a.n.other, possibly a big name but still only potential. We'll probably bring in a few cheaper youths as well.

Have enjoyed Chelsea poaching some players away from us in the past. I remember just how much SWP would have cost us.

hey dont knock it - SWP is good enough for any top four side

.......according to Biz anyway :D

edit

Fergie has started already

Brazilian 17 year old Rafael Leao , a combative midfielder , has signed on loan until the summer

One of the kids mentioned nearly two weeks ago spotted at the Bolton game (thought this was already done along with the other four also at the game)

Either way work permits wont be granted for a few years even if Utd do sign them - unless they start getting regular call ups to the Brazil squad

I'd still say Reina would be my first choice, he's arguably the best keeper in the world right now and I dont think being United's no 1 would phase him.

De Gea although looks a great young keeper I still have my doubts over given how good young keepers have failed at United previously. Shame he aint 5 years older tbh.

I don't like Reina's daft mistakes he makes in the big games though.

De Gea like someone said above is a decent enough keeper now who will only get better imo, a steady goalkeeper for the next 10 + years is sweet.

What ever happened to all the hype surrounding Akinfeev a few years back, I recall a few years ago both Chelsea and Utd were linked with him multiple times and now barely a whisper about him.

As a slightly older alternative to De Gea, what about Lloris?

true aboutt buffon but he is 33 we signed van der sar when he was 35 I think ?

so possibly 3-7 years out of him i would say, true there are other considerations such as wages ec to take ino account, ill bend to your judgement if you think de gea is better than buffon but even so I just see it as £17.5million that could be spent elsewhere if we got buffion on a free, same as mexes. Central defence to me isnt a troublesome area with the emergence of smalling, with the regulars evans, vidic, rio (semi regular :p) I think mexes could come in and do a job, he isn going to displace rio or vidic as first choice but would be good backup.

Siging a young keeper is always a risk and a Man utd i could be trouble as we all know some players just don seem to cope playing for man ud and the pressue it brings. Buffon has played at the highest level for years so in theory to me anyway he would make the better singing in everyway. but maybe thats why im a keyboard manager and not the real thing :p

The other players that we have been linked with i.e rodwell, young ec dont inspire me with confidence either, to me we need 1-2 Recognised CM's, and a Recognised Keeper. Possibly a winger but even then valencia, Nani, Park, Giggs and maybe cleverly means we should be ok there for next season, bearing in mind if we play 4-3-3 then we only really need one winger as our forwards and say nani interchange.

With regards to the player from Desportivo Brasil, we struck up a deal whereas we pay a set fee for players based on position etc to feed into us whilst going to play at FC Twente for a while to get work permits.

Desportivo Brasil have said they want to become the best club to produce youngsters, so could work out well!

Yeah there was a really interesting article about this arrangement in the Daily Mail (of all places) last week. Sounds like it could be a good deal for us. Shame it can't get us Neymar and Ganso really!
