Hi Loki, hope you're well.

I wouldn't be surprised to see United do some of their business before the window opens officially, we seem to be moving that way over the last few years.

On the contrary over the past 3 seasons, other than signing Smalling and Hernandez, it has been glacier slow or none existent.
The clubs best transfer dealings have come when they have moved fast, I think the talk of one, two or three players coming in is way understating what is going to happen.
I can see the likes of Gibson, Evans,Brown, O'Shea, Owen and Berbatov all being shipped out and quickly too.
However this window I suspect most deals have been done for players coming in bar the keeper.

I hope the Sun is wrong this morning I really do

Ashley Young for £25m on 100k/week with only 12 months on his contract come the summer - complete rip off imo, £12m and about 70k a week would be about right

(apart from the transfer fee which I think sounds completely wrong given the time left on the contract, I cant see SAF/Gill offering 100k /week straight away to that type of player - to Sneijder et all then 100k (or more) would be understandable)

No quotes or anything (which is a good thing in this case) - but depending on who it was coming from it was supposedly the "talk of the England dressing room over the international break"

Overall I think its quite a sensible article. The asian market does bring large financial bonuses, which is why so many teams have been trying to tap into the asian market of late with asian tours and so forth. Honda, as an example, already has quite the following there and would fit well into the Liverpool team (almost any top EPL team to be honest) and is only priced at 10-12m currently, which is significantly cheaper than an English alternative, just look at the prices touted for Young for example. That and I'd love us to sign him of course :D

There are a lot of Prem teams (if the press are to be believed lol) after another asian attacking midfield player (good goal scorer too), from a mid /top German team - admittedly probably more expensive than Honda but looks / sounds decent too

I would be a little alarmed at the sponsor's open-ness in how they did this if I were a Liverpool fan - I wouldnt want any sponsors putting undue pressure on the board / head of recruitment for selecting the manager or potential targets

(I would espect Sponsors to potentially do this behind the scenes for sure, but to openly advertise what they want. Yes it can be seen as a good thing how open SC are being, but that itself could (might not of course) cause more pressure).

I suppose so, I mean it doesnt bother me personally as I think they are merely saying what most people already know, that the asian market is lucrative and its financially beneficial to have an asian player. Frankly Honda really ought to already be a target anyway, so no change there either. I'd be a lot more bothered if they had said, we want you to sign a player from Lichtenstein because I promised a mate there that we'd look at their players, but I can see (and agree) with the thinking behind signing a quality asian player.

(and anything which might push us towards signing Honda I am happy with too :D (then just snap up Kjaer and Defour too and I'm a happy bunny for next season)

True - I suppose they arent specifying a target, which would be very concerning

I just thought it a bit strange they also mentioned the Dalglish situation (that he should be signed permanently) - Im not saying he shouldnt, but its got nothing to do with the Sponsors whether he is or isnt (given the job full-time)

Havent seen many footy related April fools yet - apart from Fergie being given the position of Life President of the Referee's Association :D

I actually havent seen many April fools of any type yet, trawled the newspaper websites this morning and didnt really see much, which is unusual. Guess everyone is just being miserable this year :)

I'm actually very surprised Wenger hasn't been more prolific in the Japanese market for that same reasoning, we've finally got some Japanese kid, looks a tad small and young at the moment so not sure if we're doing the 3 years loan + passport from more "relaxed" Euro country in terms of passport rules, then comes here with EU passport.

The US market is getting bigger by the year though, and being that most of the teams play in just huge stadiums the money involved and fans watching can grow very easily/quickly compared to normal. National team doing better and better, quality of the league increasing dramatically, more and more big league teams doing tours there. Basically theres got to be a good wedge of cash for getting someone like Landon Donovan in, he was superb for Everton.

The top clubs should be grabbing guys like him, and a couple asian guys, lol for Arsenal lets be honest, you can't do much worse than Denilson/Diaby anyway so its not going to harm the team but could help in a big way. Utd target these markets heavily and make a shedload of cash.

As for Young, in the next few years he'll become the first name on the England teamsheet, has been one of the best few wingers in the league for 3-4 years, and considering Utd's more recent system, 4-3-3 with winger/strikers as opposed to out and out wingers Young suits that mould very well, he's also good defensively and never stops running. 25mil, his worth is based on how many people want him. Any of the top 6 would be lucky to get him, whenever Utd make a bid, at least 2 of the other teams will bid for him, maybe 4 other teams.
