Maybe I'm wrong but it sounds like you're being negative for the sake of it now, you seem put out by the fact we're not signing this 18 year old French kid yet the one young defender we have signed you're now questioning it?

Have you seen Varane play before or something? Personally having known next to nothing about either Jones or Varane if I had the choice I'd of picked the one we have signed

In other news AVB has signed for Chelsea on a 3 year deal

No its because as usual you dont read whats in front of you ;) rather what you think you've read/would like to see :o

I am saying is a lot of circumstances have effected the viability of this transfer, nothing negative, nothing positive, I have no opinion either way on the matter.
United to all intents and purposes were not going to move for jones till next year yes?
United had Varane lined up for THIS year.

United have two first choice centre backs, a very good back up and johnny evans should hell freeze over.
Varane has been playing first team football, yes he is young, but he is a first team/rotation player NOW not in 2 years, he doesnt want to throw a years playing time away by potentially only getting as far as the bench for 95% of the season at United because the will have 5 players ahead of him.
If say things were different, no Jones this year, say Rio hung up his boots, or Evans was moved on, its a viable transfer, it isnt for him now.
There will be other defenders, the circumstances are just not right at this time for this transfer, that is all.

Excellent, will either make Hennessey work a bit harder and improve, or will prove to be a better keeper than Wayne and take the Number 1 shirt. Either way, happier with Hennessey, De Vries and Ikeme as our 3 keepers, rather than Hahneman.

Now just to buy a couple of defenders and a striker and we should be ok! I actually think Konchesky would be good for us, as much as I love Elokobi.

I thought all deals for Varane were with plans to loan him back anyway. Not sure where first team football comes into it.

Whos to say, you read the supposed quotes and thats what it comes across as.
Its doesnt matter either way though does it? Another decent young centre back was required, thats what has been bought.
There are now 4 viable centre halves at the club rather than 3 and Evans so mission accomplished.
There will be someone else next year, or a youth player, or even should Rio simply not be up to it any more a 24 to 26 years starter maybe.

Can't see Sunderland being the team to sign Connor Wickham if i'm honest. Ipswich will hold out for more and he will want to go somewhere a bit bigger than Sunderland I think, especially if he knows a lot of teams are after his services.

Also, rumours Wilson Palacios could be heading to Napoli for £12m and Jenas to Fenerbache for £5m, if we managed to have a sell up we should soon be opening a nice little transfer kitty. Although I like Jenas so would be a shame to see him go whilst Palacios' passing is incredibly hit and miss.

i can't see who man utd are gonna get for midfield, everyone they get linked with so do chelsea and man city, and they seem to be able to offer more dosh and don't care to much about wage structure, .... all i read is they are linked with more up and coming defenders, which is an area they are over subscribed in!

Any bookies giving good odds on Villas-Boas getting sacked before Christmas?

I'd fancy a punt on him getting sacked next summer maybe rather than christmas. The Chelsea job is rapidly becoming a poison chalice. What is this, their 6th manager in 7 years? Its an insane turnover rate for a big club imo.

abromovich is an idiot, if he wants to win the champions league, he needs to build a bigger stadium (due to new rules), keep hold of a decent manager (ancelotti or mourinho) for several years and give him money (look how much man city have spent just to get 3rd in EPL) to spend. also ray wilkins should never of been let go, dont care what anyone says, its a huge coincidence they collapsed when he left, one that i cannot believe is pure chance. manchester united got ripped apart by barcelona, if abromovich thinks that by bringing in new manager's he is going to be able to beat barcelona with the same players he has, he needs to lay off the special sauce.

he spends hundreds of millions on yachts every year but not on chelsea, fair enough they have signed a few players, but they need to get rid of zhirkov, kalou, malouda, mikel, cech and bring in decent replacements.

cech seems to be getting worse every year, no communication with his defender's what so ever, the guy is an idiot.

also their wage bill is huge, they need to get someone who will stand up to abromovich and run the club they want to run it (mourihno).

Its hardly a bad job, win stuff, get called a genius, get loads of money and keep your job.

Don't win the treble, get fired, people will say its not your fault as you didn't have enough time, get paid loads, get a HUGE pay off when fired, go and manage elsewhere.

Oh dont get me wrong, its a terrific job if you want to get lots of money. Its just that money in my chalice means very little to me, so in my eyes its a poison chalice where virtually no matter what you do you seem to inevitably be given the sack. If money was my aim though, yeah it would be high on my list, but money is at the bottom of my list :)

Cahill to Spurs rumours seem to be gathering pace, with either Bassong or Kaboul going in the opposite direction.

i think due to the money they paid for him and the squad that chelsea have his job will be safe for a season. i think there are certain teams in the prem that would always win most of there games with anyone in charge. Chelsea are always gonna be in the top 5 even if i was in charge, so an early sacking unlikely i think, but no silverware could see him gone in 12 months.

His biggest threat could be Hiddink becoming DoF. If Chelsea hire him as well they'll have a ready made replacement to jump in the hot seat as soon as things look to be turning sour.

Personally think VB has made a big mistake so early in his career. Porto could've done some serious damage in the CL next season.

i don't think Hiddink will be back at chelsea ever... something has gone on, and i believe is was messed about, chelsea seemed to be going for him and changed there minds, i would be surprised if he takes any role at chelsea.

i would also imagine that VB has stated that he either minds having at technical director at the club or not, i would have thought that would have been discussed in the first meeting RB had with him in Portugal last week.

i agree though its a big gamble for him, but maybe he thought i have done it all, domestically and this season would be a come down... cos they wont win the CL, although i think they could and still can do well.
