new formation

5-2-3
-------------------De Gea-----------------

Rafael - Vidic - Ferdinand - Jones - Evra

Nani --------------------------------Young

-----Rooney---Hernandez----Cavani--

at least Jones could be tried just in front of the back four :):(
(while I know it isnt his best / favoured position)

Cant see Nani getting played on the right ahead of Valencia when latter is fit (in Fergie 's choice at least) .

SAF could always try an experiment of Nani in the middle against a (much) lower team..... cant see it working but it could happen lol
(I know it was a joke - but it also smacked of your preference rather than what SAF is likely to choose as well) :)

Cavani

What on earth would we do with him? Seems we're linked with every position other than midfielder :(

But hey we have 6 strikers at the club, let's add another.

Macheda & Welbeck Im guessing you mean? Reckon Macheda will ever come back to Utd to play?

I know SAF seems to love Welbeck (keep on forgetting he is so young - but still not convinced he can step upto Utd quality ) could be useful out wide - esp if Nani goes, but cant see Welbeck getting many chances centrally - unless its mainly CC games and see how he does (unless he has a blinder at pre-season)

I will be gobsmacked if Berba is allowed to run down his contract (he wont be happy being a sub - far too old/good for that without doubt, and I cant see Utd allowing a huge or long contract to be offered to him which must be what he's after........although with so many leaving / released / retired wages shouldnt be so much of an issue admittedly)

A little update on the Adam & Downing deals plus a few other things. The Adam deal should go through tomorrow and Downing's expected to hand in a transfer request tomorrow too. Also, (it's been reported before but can't recall it being mentioned on here) any possible Meireles sale may not simply be down to the club wanting rid of him but also because of a contractual dispute; he's said to have been promised a contract review at the end of this season which the current board/owners (who didn't make the promise) aren't living up to. How many more decision and promises made by Cecil are going to cost Liverpool?

Crouch and Robbie Keane being reported as being the two highest earners at Spurs (goes hand in hand with the clause I mentioned earlier in the thread) and a proposed new contract for Modric at 90k a week.

Which makes this window's aim pretty simple. Get rid of Crouch and Keane, drop the wage bill by 160k a week, offer 90k to Modric, offer 70k a week to Falcao...

Or am I dreaming? :D

If the quotes are legit, it wouldn't have made things any easier then; clubs may try and take advantage over any need to sell by bidding lower than they would do.

Is it true that Arsenal's record transfer is £13 million? :p That's ridiculously low given the amounts thrown around over the last 5-6 years :D

In other news, Barca have moved to black and white photocopying to help fund the Fabregas bid - seriously what next, Barca to sell second-hand TVs and stationary on eBay to help fund the bid? :p

Errm, didn't Meireles take a large step down in wages to make the move on the promise that if it turned out well he'd get a bump in pay?

In other words, on the prospect of a foreigner not adapting well and not playing well, you end up with a guy NOT on Javanovic/Cole type wages, seems to me Cole was essentially done and dusted before Roy came in as at the time everyone was saying it was nothing to do with him. Meireles was a Roy deal supposedly, and it sounds like a very good deal, a get out clause essentially incase he was crap.

Thing is he wasn't crap, voted the fans player of the year, insanely important especially over the key period that turned the form/mentality around. Surely he's done as promised and he's now just due to get a "normal" wage while he was on a fairly low wage before.

Who knows with Redknapp?

I hope not. With the prices Levy sets, it'll be hard to shift players.

They have to, its not about transfer fee's, but wages, already think this seasons numbers aren't going to look that pretty.

They've got so many guys who basically don't need to be there, and Redknapp doesn't want to bring in more tat, though he will, he's looking for a star player, meaning bigger wages than anyone currently gets there.

Assuming they buy a striker, or even two they need to sell the same amount of strikers at a bare minimum, realistically they need to to ditch I would think 2 strikers, a winger, and 1 or two central midfielders just to bring in two top strikers on top wages.

IE 2x100k a week strikers, replacing, 2x50k a week strikers, and 2 other 50k a week players. I'd think Spurs at this stage need to basically not increase wages at all, and probably are in need of reducing wages by as much as possible really which would mean another few fringe players on top of that.

need to sell Robbie Keane as soon as possible, but I can only really see him going out on loan. He is on a massive wage and the only teams who would take him are likely to be fighting relegation and not afford his wages. Teams like Wolves would be likely take him, but I doubt he would take a massive pay cut despite getting 1st team football.

Could quite easily ship out Crouch to a team like Sunderland, but levy will want top dollar. Spurs need a quality striker and it could end up going to deadline day where teams don't want to sell as they would have no time to find a replacement.

As you say I'd assume it depends on them willing to take wage cuts to actually play.

On a side note, the fans get really happy when you sell Keane on FM :p
