I agree, I don't think he's good enough to warrant a top contract. He's clearly got a very inflated ego though, which might be a stumbling block.

Arsenal need, or Wenger needs to admit this player wants to leave and cash in, all it will result in is an unhappy player, wasting wages on him and then not getting anything back for him when he leaves. Silly really.

I rated Clichy and that's a prime example of a situation similar to this, as was the Flamini situation.

That's fairly hard to agree with, when it seems numerous clubs would be willing to boost his wage substantially!

Would that just not be a way of tempting him away though?

Arsenal will pay me XX, United pipe up and say well, we'll pay you XXX.

If they're offering it, he warrants it, basically. It's really, really hard to argue he doesn't warrant a bigger wage, if other teams are willing to offer more, no?

I'd personally just think it's a way of tempting players away from clubs when they have ~12 months left on their contract.

Arsenal feel he's worth XX but United feel he's worth XXX if they can get him on a free? Would he only be on XX if United had to pay a fee?

Not for me, expect to see Iniesta (slowly) replacing Xavi, and Fabregas (slowly) moving into Iniesta's place. I mean, how can you bench Pedro? 20+ goals and 10+ assists a season, Iniesta's good but he would never replicate that playing in one of the outer forward positions.

...............GK
........Pique...Puyol...Abidal
Alvez
............Busquets
.........Xavi........
......................Iniesta
Pedro..........................Villa
..............Messi

Still their strongest team, imo.

xavi is 31 iniesta is 27.

xavi > iniesta

giggs and scholes played until they were 35+ in a much more physical league.

therefore i dont see xavi being forced out for fabregas, xavi will be in the first team for at least 3 more years easily.

I don't personally think he's a player of that higher calibre :p

I doubt United would be offering him the wage they are if they had to pay a large fee for him. So it's kind of an unfair thing to compare isn't it?

Arsenal might be offering him what they feel he's worth but they United think they can offer him more (they're a bigger club anyway) with the money they didn't waste on paying Arsenal for his services.

Maybe, but even if you're signing a player on any sort of fee, you've got to tempt him over, a player like Nasri (whom it appears is motivated by money as much as winning things) would react well to United chucking in an extra ~10'000 a week.

"Come play for us Nasri, we'll pay you a bit more and you might win something"
"Come play for us Nasri, we'll pay you exactly the same, but you'll win things"

No. In January, when his contract has six months to go, he can negotiate with clubs outside of England... then can negotiate with other clubs in England when there's a month to go, possibly (the latter part is FM knowledge, lol).

Ah, Was only going on semi tired FM knowledge myself :p

Manchester City striker Craig Bellamy has refused to take a wage cut to smooth the way for a return to former club Celtic. (Daily Record)

how much is he on?

i dont know what celtic's wages are but im guessing the best players are on £20-30K a week.

How highly rated is Tom Ince at Liverpool? Apparently Fulham agreed a fee ~£250k for him.

I thought his contract was up

He's a reasonable player but never somebody I thought would make it at Premier League level. And he's got an interfering Dad.

I've not been hugely impressed with him and the trouble is that there are just SO many people ahead of him in his position at the team that he realistically has almost no chance of ever breaking into the team. From the times I've seen him though I think he would be more successful if he dropped to the championship for a few years and get in some playing time.
