So you are actually saying that a striker's only job is to score goals? Not build up attacks with his other team mates or anything of that ilk? Not defend for corners and set pieces? All he does is score?

A strikers game isn't just to score goals, it's a team game.

But if a Striker is scoring goals, he is definitely doing a huge part of his job. Especially when it is as efficient as RvP, who doesn't exactly miss many opportunities.

According to Espn, RvP last season started 19 prem games, got 18 goals and 7 assists. Not bad stats for a player that is supposedly being played wrong IMO

Edit: I am definitely not saying it's his only job, I'm not Dr.Pain. :p

Doesnt mean that no one will come in for him.

I am typing it on my phone. I was sure that i did him. I will edit it now ;)

Football is a funny game, there will be someone who will come in for him but more fool them.

;) well done! haha

Yeah, cos Emile Heskey has helped England do so well eh?

A strikers job is to score goals. You cannot deny this. Its a fact!

If you dont score then you dont win. Quite simple.

A forwards "over all game" has developed as have tactics, a forward has much more to his game then just scoring goals, he's the focus of the attack, he's there to create and build as much as he is score goals.

The modern forward also defends quite a bit.

Before you come in here spouting **** about a sport you clearly have a lack of understanding about I suggest you go away and read some books and read about some of the greats of the game and how they've influenced the modern game.

Two books off the top of my head; The Ball is Round and Inverting the Pyramid.

I didn't say his job wasn't to score goals, There is just far more to a modern forwards game then "just" goals. RVP is a good example, he's good at doing the forward "work" and scoring goals.

Yeah sorry, I don't know why I even quoted you

I was meaning to just say what I did in general. :p It's what I get for having late nights and getting up early in the morning, I guess.

Edit:Tom84, the Belgian winger he is on about is Hazard.

There we go folks, you heard it here first. Being a striker isnt about scoring you know. How do you help them to win WITHOUT scoring? LULZ - seriously.

Drunkenmaster, you are actually drunk when you post aren't you.

I don't recall ever reading as much garbage as this other than having the misfortune to browse the Sun newspaper.

Watch football a little bit closer, in the modern 4-3-3 a large part of the striker's game is receiving and distributing out wide/to a CAM and then making their way into the box. RvP is an example of one of the better men for this, his link up play is top class and he adds so much more to Arsenal than goals. DM is often wrong but he's bang on here. Many strikers in a 4-3-3 will play a lot of the game with their back to goal.

Ok just read back and Tummy stole my RvP example :(

But DM says RvP suffers being on his own, where as I think he shines. He gets more of the ball, and with him that is only ever going to be a good thing.

I think RVP needs more support and would benefit with someone playing up top with him. If that makes sense. He needs more of a partner and less of just an abundance of attacking midfielder's, or that's how I read DM's point.

I think he would do better with proper support out wide, like Gervinho could well be. But I guess while at Arsenal, we will probably never know.

As a side note, I think Ryodinho should be getting some game time! :D

ROFL

I dont need a book to tell me that scoring goals wins you matches (mostly)

Stick to your books and I will stick to watching games.

Manchester United just announced a £110.9m pre-tax profit. Jesus. Considering they had loss £108.9m in 2009-2010 which included the transfer of Ronaldo, that is one hell of a turn around. DHL accounts for £40m, some Asian mobile company has paid a bit as well and transfer wise it is a net spend this season. I presume that the removal of those god awful PIK loans has helped with interest payments massively.

It is a £200m turnaround in a year which I am struggling to add up.

It doesnt account for DHL as this deal was announced after 30th June (or the mobile phone company for that matter) - this is stated clearly in the article you posted lol

Problem is, you don't tend to pay enough attention when watching those games.

Chelsea weren't in for him though

I guess Messi was one that got away as well then :p

I didn't say they were, I was just telling you the player he was talking about. :p

Changed your tune a bit ;)

A forward has much more to his game then to "just" score goals.

As for scoring goals winning you matches, I'm not sure anyone has mentioned that until now. You claimed that forwards were only there to score goals, me and several other people have corrected you.

Behave. Gilly.
