Let down by Cashley once again. signed a keeper but no striker  we should be ableto get by but I want to do well not just get by  Best for EPL top scorer :p:rolleyes:

God your logic is so hard to comprehend some times :/

During his run Van Persie was doing his job, be it scoring the first goal, an equalising goal, or even just a consolation goal it is by no means anything to do with him being a lack of a lone striker the fact that those goals didn't lead to wins THAT was a problem with the rest of your team.

RVP didn't suddenly think to himself you know what we're not winning this game so I'll kick this into row Z..... oh **** we're 2-0 down now I better do something

I agree and I've said it before. DM bases everything on stats. RVP did his job, is he then supposed to run back and get in goal? DM your logic is idiotic.

Mind blown, that is a team with no CL football, how can you afford all that! No CL, 45k every home game, crazy

Also Arsenal at buying cheap crap!

Even with no CL money our money in was higher then Spurs with CL income.
Its amazing what having no debt can do to your finances.

No more debt = no more interest payments. We've also signed some big commercial deals too so we're not reliant on CL money anymore.

Give or take, we've spent around £55m and brought back in ~£22m with a further £7m almost guaranteed next summer for Aquilani. I believe that all-in, we've loaned, sold or released 19 players this summer and although it's not come down as much as it should have, our wagebill is bound to have decreased.

If you include the Aquilani fee, since the takeover we've only actually spent ~£25m more than we've brought in while lowering our wagebill. When you look at the strength of the squad before and after, it's £25m well spent imo.

Couldn't have said it better myself

Over all I think we have done well for the signings we have made but I am also a little disappointed that we haven't replaced fab with someone who has a little more presence.

We were never going to be able to get someone in as an equal replacement but I would have settled for a decent DM.

But despite the £80m odd we generated from sales it is very Wenger of him to spend about half that on new players. Artega for £10m? I really like him as a player and he is normally involved in the goals against us.

All I can say is that Wenger should have made these signings last season with fab and maybe he might be still here.

On a positive note he has addressed a lot of our concerns on the team. And I am relieved I am not going to have to watch the games behind my hands like I did with the Utd game.

Hopefully he adds to our squad in January. Cahill can sign a precontract in January can't he? Not that we would be able to get him now.

Surely if he scores he's doing his job, it's not his fault if we concede. Some ridiculous logic there.

Pretty much. As long as he scores goals then there's not much more you can ask of him. Our defence and midfield have let us down hugely in the first three games and now that we have those reinforcements coming in, as well as all the players to come back from injury and suspensions I'm quite pleased with the end result of the transfer window.

Okay we didn't sign a like-for-like Cesc replacement but I don't think one exists outside of Barcelona and certainly not at the price we would be willing to pay. We heard a lot of rumours about big bids for that M'Vila guy, but we were never going to spend that obscene amount of money on one player and even though people will say we have gone and panic bought I think if you look at the deals they're pretty good. Arteta on 55K a week doesn't sound like panic to me, neither does Mertesacker who would do a job for any team.

I've not got any idea what this Santos bloke is like, but seriously he can't be any worse than Traore or any more injury prone than Gibbs, and considering he plays for the Brazilian national team on a regular basis he must have something good about him. People will be underwhelmed by Benayoun, but we've got Arteta as well and I think Benny will be a good squad player, and it'll be nice to have another creative midfielder and experienced head in the team.

DM - so you criticise RVP because we don't win all the games he scores in? Seems like some kind of perverse logic. Would you criticise the defence if they kept a clean sheet but the forwards failed to score a goal?

That's the name of the game now thanks to FCB and his cockney mob, he wants to reduce the wage bill and collect the interest off the sales, and basically just "get by" in the premiership, not challange or fighting for anything, he's hoping for a sale soon, I think, and flogging us as a mid table team with low wage bill, high numbers through the doors every week, makes us a better prospective buy.

We've pulled in over £40m since January with player sales, and at a punt say we've reinvested less than half of that. Deadline day January Pardew was left holding his tadger in his hand with no replacement striker for Andy Carroll, and last night was just a repeat of that. The sham bid we made for Ruiz with our last dying breath was just that, a sham, we would never get him, we bid for a locked in player who was already ready to play for Fullham, and will be in a week and a halfs time.

I'm embarrsed to have bought a season ticket for this crap, and if the same happens next January (which it will, we'll end up with a untested kid, or a sol campbell as our No.9) FCB can kissed goodbye to my next £560.

"Leon_Mann: David Moyes put a call into Shaun Wright Phillips agent at 10.30pm last night! Just shows how bonkers window can be. #efc #everton"

Should have been an option any way since we haven't got a right winger right now!

That would have cheered me up a little bit if we'd got him! Didn't realise until this morning that we'd lost Beckford as well! Just hope this new striker we've loaned is OK.

Love this from the telegraph comments....

Mikel Arteta -
Catalonian thoroughbred
very popular with Everton fans
exciting charismatic player

Mikel Arteta -
will be 30 years old next March
2008 stomach injury
2009 cruciate knee ligament injury
2011 grade 2 hamstring tear injury
2011 foot injury
2011 asked to leave Everton
2011 Arsenal offered (reputed) £10 million

IT'S A NO BRAINER!

I think it represents a very good deal for Everton, 10m and the wage off the books. Arsenal did well to get his wages down but I bet that's only initially and based on appearances etc he will earn more than he's on now or go up year on year.

He's not a lone striker, in tough games you need someone like Berbatov who can control just about any type of pass, bring it under control, step into space and play a great pass to your supporting players. RVP has been pretty rubbish at that, and in all the tough games he's gone almost completely missing.

Somewhat ironic you mention Berbatov as he never gets a big game at United :p

As for the rest like I said earlier in the thread to my knowledge RVP has never played with a strike partner long term at Arsenal or Holland so who knows if that would work out for the better? Then again you don't like your current 4-5-1 formation anyway so I assume you'd want that changed to a 4-4-2 as well

id bet on arteta having some big bonuses in that contract. like for when he's actually fully fit

loan deadline hasn't passed . if there even is one ?

send em all to boro because we now have one fit striker :p

Indeed. On one hand I'm really pleased we didn't lose Williams, Hines or Bates. I'm really disappointed we didn't bring a striker in.

It's looking like a loan deal. When is the deadline for loans?

Despite the lack of CL football, I'd have to guess that Liverpool must still be one of the most popular English names abroad.

As much as I loathe the term, I reckon they're a bigger 'brand' than Man City, Chelsea, or Arsenal.

And when he does he stinks the place out usually.

3 seasons, one big game performance against the worst liverpool side in living memory.

I dont think City would have had much to celebrate last year If we had had Van Persie up front in that semi final, those are the kind of chances he just doesnt miss.
Ever.

Just annoys me is all, should have seen it coming like another derby victory :D

I don't know why we didn't go for Macheda, Sturridge or Bendtner on loan. But ho hum i'm used to it :p
