I'll bet anything you like that Johnson doesn't play another 50 league games for City. Why pay a player off when you can send him out on loan and get another club to pay some or all of his wages until his contract expires.

He looked like he might become a decent player but injuries have ruined him and he's not going to get a look in at City even if he can get over his injury problems.

And I can't be bothered arguing with you about Hargreaves. I don't believe he's got anything to offer you; he'll make single figure appearances (mainly in the League Cup and as a sub) and will be released at the end of the season.

Is anywhere taking bets on how long Hargreaves lasts into his next appearance, last one was around 7 minutes IIRC. I think City might be lucky to get even that much first team football out of him.

As for CL experience, theres only so many leaders you want on the pitch, before everyone starts getting confused, the best thing you can do is, gel together as a team, if Yaya/De Jong play one way and Hargreaves likes to play another way, to a certain degree Hargreaves advice which works when he's in the team won't necessarily work with the way other players like to play. Theres a huge amount of CL experience in the side, and even more European experience(even before City actually got into the Europa league that is :p ). The biggest thing about European football is, confidence, playing your game, getting used to the longer traveling, getting used to different stadiums and different atmosphers, its hardly like Spurs crumbled the first time they got in the CL is it.

For me lots of people seem to have a case of "absense makes the heart grow fonder" over Hargreaves, people talk about him like he single handedly dragged them into a champs league final, he had some great games, everyone does. He was almost completely worthless in his last england tournament except for in the last game where he was probably the best England player on the pitch(which didn't mean that much) but that seems to be the only lasting impression the last game where we were terrible and he was okay. In previous games we were okay and he was terrible.

Team: Southampton

Players In
Jack Cork: Best 750k (reported) ever spent. Has instantly slotted into the midfield and really provided a link that we needed from midfield. Can't believe that Chelsea let him go so cheap and saw no future for him.
Steve De Ridder: Belgium's Adam Lallana... Well thats going to far but basically a pacey left winger we've got in as part of the team. Was cheap and could prove to be a really good prospect (with a bit of training) as his appearances so far have been very encouraging.
Danny Fox: 1.8m to break Burnley a bit. Turns out he's competition for left back but hasn't really gotten his first team chance. Fully expect him to make that his own position once the regular left back makes a few more errors.
Jos Hooiveld: On loan from Celtic till jan. No idea at all as i found out this morning. Apparently not finding first team at Celtic means he's bad but the way our manager has operated it seems he likes to turn some neglected players into diamonds.

Players Out
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: As fan's all we wanted was to keep him and watch the team develop with him as a key part. In reality £12-15m is beyond our wildest dreams.
Oxlade-Chamberlain: We got ripped off here, a poor man's Adam Lallana. Spending £12-15m on a player who won't get in the team for another couple of years (if at all) seems like a waste, we could have MASSIVELY improved our squad by bringing in say Parker and Dann for that money.
Summ's it up as I can't understand how any scout watched some tapes of him playing and didn't go "who's that Lallana guy? Is he english? and how much?!?!"
Jason Puncheon: On loan to QPR till jan. Could have gone soon enough, proof you can not have a massive ego, fight with the club that employs you and get away with it. Good riddance.
Joseph Mills: Some left back kid we've sold to Reading, looked ok, nothing special.
Ryan Doble: On loan to Bournemouth. A kid who needs games, won't get them with us ever.
Oscar Gobern: The Karate Kid! Made a HORRIBLE tackle least season in his one start, got offered a contract at Huddersfield and left despite us making room for him. Not a professional (and made the same tackle a few weeks ago)

Ones that got away
Ammar Jemal: Didn't get a work permit, would have sorted all the problems below.
Kasper Gorkks: Should have been the replacement CB we've wanted but we thought Fontaine would be better.
Liam Fontaine: Failed a fitness test, should have gotten Gorkks on this logic but its a shame either way.
Nicky Maynard: Young and fast. We wouldn't pay more than 2m, technically rightly so but we don't have enough striker options really.
Jay Rodriguez: 5m may have been worth it, but Burnley said he was pretty much priceless which is a shame.

Deadweights
We've STILL got Tommy Forcast. Part of the Bale deal, a man on 3k a week who has the goal keeping ability of a blind 10 year old. We got mugged and still can't get rid of him (he's on loan bench warming at Thurrock).
Danny Seaborn: Rubbish CB, just hoof's. Shouldn't have taken him from Exeter and shouldn't be part of the squad.

Overall
A very productive window. Not perfect but getting Cork and De Ridder in, bitting Arsenal's hand off for Chambo and then not getting ripped off for being a quids in club has been pretty sweet. Just want a new keeper.

now he's gone to man city, he's apparently never been any good.

funny how opinions change

I've always maintained he's an average player who punches above his weight due to an unbelievable workrate and versatility.

If you want to talk about opinions changing overnight, the entire country hated him until he had an OK (just OK in amongst a den of mediocrity, not world beating) world cup in 2006 and then all of a sudden he was the best thing since sliced bread. In 25 years of watching international football I have NEVER seen opnion change on a player so fast.

Well, he's a unique case, isn't he? I can't think of any other player to have played for England without first playing club football in England.

The vast majority of England fans never saw him play for Bayern Munich - all they saw was his workman-like performances out of position for England. I don't think it's a big shock that everyone's opinion suddenly changed after he started playing in his natural position.

Fair point I suppose, think in some ways I wanted him to fail because he spoke with a Canadian accent and didn't live in England so would rather other players were played ahead of him.

A little known fact about Manchester City is that in August 2006, the club became the first to be officially recognised as a "gay-friendly" employer by campaign group Stonewall UK.

Doesnt seem to be an accolade the fans are shouting about.

Why are you still here?

You know less then nothing about football.

How would you know what I know?

Just because I dont pretend to know the intricate financial workings of my club does not mean I know nothing.

I follow many leagues.

EDIT:- OWEN HARGREEVES INTERVIEW ON SSN @ 6PM for those of you interested.

And you still can't grasp what a forwards job is on the football pitch in the modern game.

Go away, you offer nothing other then talking bull to this forum.

Right.....

Point?

Better than not being gay friendly surely?
