Summer Transfer Window 23/24

Potentially... still feels like a stark example of the absolute bonkers decision making of the Woodward regime. Been appreciating Arnold and Murtoughs approach so far.

On Sancho - I'll be disappointed if ETH can't get a tune out of him as I think he's got great feet in the box. It'll be a bit of a shame if it doesn't work but he's getting plenty of opportunities and just doesn't seem to be making progress. If we can raise funds and free up a massive chunk of wages from then so be it.

Was it bonkers? When United didn't get him the year before people were frothing at the mouth that they didn't just spend the money and get it done as they could afford it. Everyone thought and assumed he would be absolute world class when he got to the EPL and it was hard to see where they were wrong. If they hadn't spent the money and he carried on tearing it up in the BL or moved to Spain people would be complaining the owners never spent the money to get it done.

How many deals over 70m have been good? Grealish has had a decent season but he's far from smashing it up and the first name on the team sheet as you would expect from one of the most expensive players. VVD is the only one I can think of when Liverpool had more legs in front of him in midfield and Pickford hadn't ended his knee. None of that is his fault, he's never reaching that level again but he's the only one who has been top level for the money consistently. Yet clubs will still throw huge sums away despite the results showing it hasn't worked.

With De Gea moving on Inter should try and hold out for a big fee for Onana. Supposedly they want £50m which MU won't pay. Just tell them the price is £50m and will increase by £5m a week until a deal is done.

Inter need to sell and apparently they want to buy Lukaku. If United don't buy him then he will stay at Inter and United will buy another keeper and that will be the end of it. Not quite sure you would be a good negotiator. :p

I think the deal is pretty much done, no way we'll blow it over a few million when we currently have no first choice GK.

Wonder what the market value for lukaku is? Will certainly be a big loss on what Chelsea originally paid.

IMO yes it was bonkers - but my view isn't on the fee of £70m, i'm fairly okay with the value of players to clubs and a club can pay the fee they deem reasonable. Where my disagreement with the decision comes in is around wages. I don't believe any unproven player should be given hefty contracts such as Sancho.

For me it's problematic in so many ways, simply put:

Attitude - Young players given ridiculous money, can inflate ego, sense of importance, etc

Wage Structure - you're inflating the wage structure, setting expectations for other purchases and for those in contract who deem them self more impactful etc.

Selling on - Becomes a problem if the players digs their heels in.

Amongst others like affecting wage structures etc.

It's a lot of risk and unwise spending, players IMO should earn their stripes and wages and very very few young players are in that position (there will be exceptions) . I personally don't glorify Sir Alex Ferguson, he had plenty of faults but one thing I think he managed was the egos and part of which was he had a say in keeping wages from being inflated (along with Gill)

Mitrovic and Henderson to Saudi next?

Surely Jeff Hendrick, Frazer and Maxi will be next. 100million for the trio
Given hendo was probably the most vocal of the England players about rights/issues during the last world cup I can't see him going, and if he did he'd be no better than a Newcastle supporter :p. Suppose he could always cite the Neville defense tho
