Supplements the debate/discussion thread

Rapid Eye Movement - it's a phase of sleep. Your sleep happens in cycles. Deep light deep light deep light etc... REM initiates in deep sleep - that's when most of the CNS recovery and repair functions of sleep occur. The vivid dreams are in a light phase of sleep after a bout of REM sleep.

I thought REM was in the lighter stages of sleep when your mind was recovering then deep sleep was later where your body is recovering.

No you go into lighter sleep from REM.... however, I haven't got my geeky science books with me, so I may be confusing myself - I will admit that sleep cycles aren't my forte (none of this is, other than being an enthusiast and a bit of a nerd :p)

It seems like something that can't be controlled? Not that I would ever worry about getting the correct amount of sleep cycles.

Indeed.

When I do use supps, I make sure I'm in a clean room, face masks on, positive air pressure, and 0% humidity. Everything is also hermetically sealed to prevent contamination and possibilities of inaccuracy.

When I used to use whey more often, I actually used to enjoy mixing stuff with it and cooking with it. I still like my smoothies. 1000cals of goodness! :D

lol @ arguments about shakers. It doesn't really matter. As long as you have a container to mix your whey and your water together - so ****ing what? There's no science behind it at all. Just use your puny muscles and give the container a good shake.

:/

Now now Mr. cranky, no harm in us discussing something that I personally make use of 3 times a day ;)

It's just a plastic container.

So what if it's got a whisk, mesh, or nothing?

It just seems a little ridiculous to be having such an indepth chat about a flipping container!

Not singling you out - just a general observation.

:p

Peanuts rock!

However, the best shake I used to have when I was a big mother****er was with almond butter - used to get through a kilo of the stuff every 2 weeks! :D

With my uber FF blend (tm) that I use. I just use a tumbler, scoop out my mix, shove it into a shaker that's 1/2 filled approximately (with water), and enjoy (I actually don't as it doesn't taste very nice). A tumbler is about 80g or so though I guess. Need to measure it actually!

It is used for recovery rather than supplementation.

Yup. :) I take BCAAs if I haven't had time to eat properly before my workout.

The blend I have is only partially protein.

I don't mind supplementation - I just don't advocate taking shakes every day unless you need to supplement your diet owing to issues (be they time or money).

I miss pre workouts :(

Training in the evening blows

Brb taking pre workout then not getting to sleep until 3am

Training in the evening rocks - a whole day of nutrition, and then the anger and motivation to get that **** day out of your system!

I don't know how you can train at 5-6am - it's ridiculous.

Usually 7:15-7:30 depending on when I get out of work

Same here - stop being a pussy.

I asked my GP that and he said that his cousin has started taking protein shakes etc and it turned out they had trace amounts of steroids, which is maybe why you can see the improvements more easily and quickly.

Creatine is really good but you take it a for month then month off etc otherwise your kidneys will literally explode.

Protein shakes is probably a good starting point, but don't get scammed and buy some ****** very cheap ones. :)

tbh a really good well balanced diet and working different groups of muscles should just do the trick.

LOL! Thanks for cheering me up this morning!! :D

A lot of you know I suffered or occasionally suffer from motivation. Heck we all have our down times. However, if you can't get to the gym, without taking supplementation then my personal opinion is that there's something more in depth to be addressed, before even thinking about taking any "boosters". That's just my personal take on it - happy for you to disagree. :)
