Supplements the debate/discussion thread

Hi,

I'm looking to gain some muscle and have started at the gym, I have recently lost a bit of weight but want to try and gain some muscle before I loose any more.

What should I be taking? Ideally I want to keep fat gain to a minimum.

My friends dad has just given me some Creatine Powder that he doesn't want as he has stopped going to the gym. Is it any good and do I just use that or take protein supplements too or get rid of the Creatine?

Any help is appreciated! :)

Just eat more of healthy food. Don't bother with supps for a good while, not until you sort out your diet and training.

Because theres no point throwing shakes down your neck if you don't have the diet to follow it :)

first time ive ever heard that...

you still need protein to build muscles no matter how **** your diet is.

you might not have a body shape that lets people see the muscle but its still getting built

There's no reason why shakes can't be included when sorting out your diet.

Theres nothing wrong with shakes at all, but theres no point having shakes if the rest of your diet is completely **** and retarded.

Why? So, if I just eat processed tard, and biscuits all day, but throw 5 shakes down my neck it will do me good yeah? :o

What I'm saying is, it is better to sort out your diet FIRST, then worry about shakes later. The only time I have a physical shake is post workout, and a scoop of whey in my porridge each morning.

You can consume shakes if you need to up your protein intake for whatever reason.
You should not assume that this alone will bring out any noticeable change to your bodies appearance.
Protein will only provide addtional growth under calorie surplus which will cause weight and fat gain (Bulking)
Protein will provide repair support and some muscle sparing under calorie deficit which will cause weight loss (cutting)
Both of these situations require an appropriate exercise regieme.

A "perfect" diet is expensive so it's helpful to add in shakes to your diet plan to provide a "clean" way to meet your macros, just don't expect them to work magic is you're still downing pints, pizzas and pringles.

Which is my point...

Sort the diet out, then add shakes in if you need to up your macros or you have money issues like myself.

Nah it's my point, I typed it

I need breakfast as well, I undertsood you though haha.

Also healthy diet is cheap, frozen veg and the cheapest chicken you can find and BAM!

Main meals sorted, then just need oats for breaky, add cheap lidl and aldi fruits for added OM NOMS.

I easily lived off 50 euro a week.
Then again I'm not after huge mass mind you, I've always prefered to stay around the 70kg mark and just work on strength.

Although now that I'm at my folks' for the summer I'm raiding all the freezers and eating salads with every meal bar breakfast.

Usual meal is whatever meat there is, on a bed of green leaf salad with tomatoes, salt and pepper and salad or goats cheese.
A huge plate of that and you're set.

Every 2-3 weeks we also got to a farms shop and get 30 chicken fillets for around €26-28 depending on weight.

Not happy, just bought Jack3d and I don't feel anything from it! Its the second pre workout shake I've had! I took 2 scoops of it and didn't feel a thing! Before Jack3d I had Razor8 which I didn't feel anything to. Anyone got any suggestions? Reviews have said they have stupid amounts of eneergy while on Jack3d. Do I have to take like 4 scoops of this seriously? I've never have caffeine before as well. I want to feel a buzz in the gym lol

maybe he doesnt want uber low body fat?

you can eat fryups and still gain muscle.... aslong as your getting enougn protein

maybe he wants to bulk now and worry about losing fat later?

Hi guys, I have a different kind of suppliment question, a lady I work with is having a hard time shifting weight, her BMI is around 30, she's had decent results (from what she tells me) with Slim Fast, and asked me if I knew of any meal time replacement alternatives, I told her there are a knowledgeable group of people I could ask for her :D

So do any of you know of any Slim Fast type alternatives?

Also I'm due a MP order in the next few days, would anyone like me to give me a mutually benificial code *hint hint*

some people on diets drink protein shakes because they are low in calories and protein makes you feel full.

i dont know much about it though so you would have to google, they arent really a meal replacement though

Did you take it on an empty stomach? With how much water? Do you consume anything else before or during your workout?
