Surviving Mars

Go to your build menu, the option on the left side, that looks like a military stripe, click on it, then on the far right side you have the option to delete cables and such. Not in game for now so don't know the proper descriptions, but there is where you find it.

Didn't even know that was there, thanks!

Is there better power generation later? I either burn through machine parts of metals!

You can ship Stirling Generators which are amazing. You can keep them closed and they will generate 10 power with no maintenance needed. You can open them and they will generate double but will also need maintenance with polymers if you do.

My colony sort of fell apart when my machine parts stop being manufactured. I don't know what I did wrong but my first dome lost all it's workers and no one wanted to work in my machine parts factory, so I stopped being able to make them, couple that with shortages of metals due to maintenance, food shortages, and serious water supply issues (I had 6 vaporators in the end, but they don't work in dust storms). I'll need to re-think how the last one went!

You can't play this game in multiplayer but the resources we all see are probably the same. Would be interesting to play the same co-ordinates as other people and compare notes :D

They don't need maintenance when closed ?? Wish it would say that, although at 12 Polymers and 6 Electronics they not that cheap to make (or 400 Mill per Generator, if buying them)

Wouldn't mind this, be interesting to see if things the same. My coordinates on the only location I played so far is 2 South, 130 East. Sponsor Europe and Commander is Futurist. All depending if you meaning exactly the same or not. Difficultie is not that high at 185% though.

So it seems to be a good strategy to overlap drone command range slightly and to put a universal storage in the overlap area - the drones then seem to share out the resources?

Yes, or the larger storage platforms, depending on how much resources you have around the area. Also, overlapping a dome helps with maintenance of it, or other important factories etc. I just started doing it at one location on my map, see how it works out.

Okis.. this is less fun. Game just throw me a curve ball. Something, probably a random "tornado" must have disabled my mobile drone unit, and no drone station is within range for it. Soooo.. had to spend what little money I had to buy a new one, so I can repair the old one !  :p

And on a slightly lesser note, how do you improve morale ?? Got that message at the same time my mobile drone unit broke down. Obviously one problem is not enough ehh ! :p Does gardens help with that or need to be like casino and such ?

You can repair the rover by clicking it with a drone i think.

My RC Rover got smashed today also, and it was at the first base where creating concrete and half the fuel.
However that didn't matter. Turned off everything including solar panels as it was separated from the first dome base. (one of my tips above...).

I sent the rocket who had just brought colonists back to earth. Loaded with 5 electronic parts I had money for, and sent it pack to Mars. Landed the rocket near the first base inside the RC Rover drones position. They woke up. Went into the rocket to charge, then repaired the Rc Rover. Unloaded the electronics to the Transport and sent the electronics to the dome.
Job done.

Nuclear Fusion, and if lucky there is a breakthrough advancing it further.

Last part. The location of map is same between two games eg 23N 2W, but all resources, anomalies etc are random. So is the quest line.
(I need to check if they used proper topographical map of Mars from NASA)

You can click a colonist and find out whats wrong. I had 20 suicide on my second game, and 13 left the planet leaving me in whole dome with 1 happy colonist. They had some huge negative malus because of water and power shortages, which aggravated them more having an icing snap at the same time.

I have definitely learnt to plan for the most likely disasters based on the map location. On my current map I get dust storms all the time and meteor showers (the meteors only ever seem to hit the elevated part of the map). Will a tunnel allow me to get to the top of the map? I guess I could land a rocket up there.

Apparently there are technologies and buildings that should keep you going after all resources have been depleted?

My experience is that the resources are always the same, if I pick a co-ordinate then I always get the same resources in the same place.

I just don't know if the resources are the same between different players or not?

Not as easy for me though, all the drones was malfunctioning due to sand. All my domes are self contained so far, well, only have 3 domes (was the 3rd dome I was building when it happened as well), and they spread apart so each one has their own power supply and all. Now have the 2nd mobile unit so can extend my operations and just got to keep the other one close to a dome at all times incase similar happens again. Just had a meteorite storm a bit away, 4 new anomalies popped up so sent the explorer there with a mobile unit to recharge it, saved me sending it back and forth.

Now it is bedtime though, past 3am and last time I check time it was 00:45. :o Game can be addictive ! Tomorrow got to make a dome close to some deep metal deposits, running out on the stuff. :(

I played twice 23N 2W, the resources were in different places, so was the starting position.

Weird for me each time I play a map I seem to get the exact same resources in the same places.

When you said this, "You place 5 big solar panels, cement, fuel refinery and moisturizer. Set everyone to work on the two morning shifts, and scan the crap of the area". I wonder what the logic behind adding 5 solar panels to your fuel/cement loop was? If you have the mentioned buildings you need 15 power, 3 panels would generate that. In a dust storm those 5 panels will drop down to a combined 10, which would only power 2 of them, I guess you could probably turn off the concrete in that case. In a freeze all of the buildings would freeze over in the night and require extra maintenance to bring them back after.

A common problem im having is getting people to work where I need them.
Despite having high priority and plenty of population they suddenly all just dont want to work in a particular building which often leads to a colony's demise over time.

Yes on freezing map needs different approach.
Also the extra power is needed because you have to charge the rovers, and some extra solar panels dont cost that much...

Check what you don't do right.
Have you set up enough infrastructure for 12 colonists only? Or you build for more and they spread out?
