My work in progress lol I think they are better than my first go at the marines (one with the sculls)

Exactly, it's why I've never ordered from there. All the comments I see about them on the net are that they are really slow to deliver and this is probably why.

I wouldn't mind if they made it obvious it would take a while but the way they do it seems a tad deceptive.

I'm pretty sure one of the paints in my basket last night was out of stock with 2 due in x number of days. I guess you just have to hope there isn't anyone else in the queue before you else who knows when you're getting yours

On another note, just ordered the Dark Angels paint set. I was 14 the last time I painted any Warhammer and I'm hoping with more thought and a methodical approach I might not suck too bad :o. If I'm not too embarrassed with the results I will post a pic here...

Still waiting for a disptach confirmation, from an order placed sunday night...

Is that from THW? If so that sucks. I know they only got an order of GW in yesterday so may be that. I've also read elsewhere they are a bit crappy with dispatch notices and infact the stuff has been shipped. Hopefully you get it soon!

They look great, even though they are evil traitor marines!

How do you get such clean looking paintwork, especially at the interchange from red -> silver, while maintaining the shading at the shoulder-pad rims?

Is it just a matter of really steady brushwork?

I find Wayland good if they've got things in stock. However, any item that's listed "more stock due soon!" is coming any time soon. :p

Thanks guys really appreciate the comments, yeah just a fine brush, water down the paint nd try to be steady as you can. I have recently found I hold my breath while I concentrate on the detail haha

My current one that I am working at looks much cleaner compared to the others because I watered down the base coat and have gone steadily applying the gold (Well Brass). Do you water down your metallic's as well? I tried this and the paint just went all weird.

Waiting on my new brushes before I continue on :)

Actually I find it really hard to breathe regularly while painting :p

Metallics I find it best to do the first coat as a blend (either boltgun metal + black or Gold + a brown) it gives it a good coverage for the first layer, then do a wash, then a touch up of just metal and a fine highlight of mithril silver if you want a bright metal (works for gold and silver)

That's exactly what I do :) I only apply a touch of water not as much as the base coat I'm really enjoying painting now takes up a lot of my time now when I have it lol

When it comes to getting good seperation and defiinition of colour blocks try leaving the thinnest black line/area (usually your undercoat if you sprayed black) between your colours, for example on marine should pads and the rim.

A lot of the times people use washes to get this seperation but you get a cleaner finish without.

When my stuff finally bloody arrives, I'll do a few shots explaining it better if anyones interested.

Yeah that would be great, I know since I've started painting my army my quality has slowly increased :) once I have my squad finished ill be starting on my hell brute now I'm more confident

Double-headed? They look weird. :o

When painting a majority-white model, is it better to build up to white from black using greys, or start white, wash with grey and then go from there?

Depends how patient you are. Starting with white, washing grey/black and then doing a few white layers will be quicker. Going from Black to pure white will take a lot of coats.

I'm quite patient, I'm just not sure if there's an easier way to achieve good shading without having to go through that effort. :p
