Tabletop Warhammer?

Argh. Being told that my things have arrived but still having an hour before I'm home is really annoying. :(

Edit: New toys! :D

I've painted the cloak of the Chosen Champion with Bloodstain Red and my first impressions of these paints are that they're going to be awesome. Out of the bottle, they're quite thin; not thin enough to apply directly with a brush, but I mixed this 1:1 with some acrylic medium and it was perhaps a little too thin, although not overly runny at least. Coverage is decent, although it is going to take another couple of coats at this level of thinning in order to get a nice, even coat. They seem to have a fair bit of flow improver and drying retarder in them, as I put my brush down five minutes ago and there are still visibly wet patches on the miniature, so their claim that they were designed for wet blending and stuff seems to have some evidence to it.

Also impressive is how quickly they were shipped and delivered from Miniature Heroes. I was expecting a longer wait as they seem to be a small, possibly even one-man operation, but nope. This is awesome. :)

Yeah. :)

The drying time in this case is kind of annoying, so I'm painting something else in the mean time. Whoever told me that Averland Sunset would cover black with ease is going to be shot. :p

:p I'm copying all the chapters of this book into notepad so i can ebookify it (totally a word) I think I underestimated how long this would take! I'm on chapter 153...

lol, from what I remember its a good read though.

I have some books that people may be interested in, they involve a horrible betrayal and are set in a fantasy universe similar to Jane Eyre.

Well, I did a quick job on the cloak (and it shows!). This is very basic, the cloak is Clotted Red, with watered down Bloodstain Red (it took me about ten layers to get a decent amount of shade into the recesses - thinking about adding a bit of black next time...) and a very basic (and not very neat :/) highlight with Carnage Red, again taking more layers than I expected. The difference between the three colours is quite subtle, looking at the dried patches on my palette it's hard to tell the difference in some places.

However, they flow very nicely and seem to give quite a smooth finish, although it's a little hard to tell in places because I had one or two issues when priming this model originally. So I'm thinking I may redo the shade and highlight with a more suitable brush so that it is a little neater (I only had a 3 available when I came to do this), darken the shade and then also do a further highlight of the extreme edges. Just not sure what colour to use for that... :p

I was going to try out the red ink but it looks to be the same shade as the Clotted Red, which wouldn't have been so good for shading. :(

A touch of black in the deep shadows and that would be great. Red is tricky to highlight because it can either look pink or orange. I think it generally looks better with red as the top most colour then deeper shadows to provide the contrast.

Going to try the black first. I was a little disappointed that the thing had such a large, relatively "flat" area, but I guess that's something to be expected in a beginner box set. :p

I did happily find a solution to my yellow problem and will now be airbrushing those parts with VAC Sand first. :)

Does anyone have any links to good sculpting tutorials? Looking at a few now but I'm really interested in the from-scratch stuff.

Massive Voodoo (link)has quite a few and Master of the Forge (link) has a few.

Just found this website too, apparently collects tutorials from over the internet. Has a lot but I haven't check them yet: Tutofig

Cheers. I'm a bit bored with just patching bits up, adding little details etc. so I think I might start doing chapter and squad markings, weapons etc. before moving on to the more complex stuff like sculpting a model from scratch. :)

Guys you may as well write off my last 2 games as losses.

I've had too much extra come up at work and I'm not really going to get the chance to play for a long while.

I'm still down for season 2 though when that happens.
