Tabletop Warhammer?

for doinga table you'll be after either the scenery painting pack, or if you just wanta board covered in flock, get a battlemat & glue it down on the board. GW are quite expensive for the scenery supplies though tbh. I get most of mine from my local modelzone, but any shop that does model rail stuff will have what you need for cheaper than GW

That battlemat looks quite awesome actually. I didn't realsie they still sold them- though the last one I bought was £8.00.

I was eyeing up the scenery painting pack before I left work, trying to work out if it was cost effective. (It isn't :p) My g/f's dad is an artist so has gallons of paint around, so does she. Only thing I'd need would be flock, and my local craft store sells it super cheap.

I'm getting giddy thinking about what I could have though.. :s

Last time I looked, modelzone had grass mats in & they were nearly half the cost of GW. If you are going to have large grass areas, I'd recommend getting a mat rather than gluing down the lose stuff. Its a bit more hard wearing & won't go bald etc as much

Due to storage options. My plan was to have a flat grassy area. Then have the terrain moveable. Also makes it easier to change scenarios if all the terrain can be repositioned :p I'm giddy with excitement :p

get 6 2x2 flat pieces of 6mm MDF or similar. Glue the mat down on all 6 at once, flip over, use our old friend Stan-Lee and cut all the 6 pieces back. There you go, 6 2x2 grassed boards.

My plans exactly- I couldn't find cheap mats on gamezone- guess I'll try my local craft.hobby stores.

Looks like they are going back to humanoid models instead of the walking boxes. Dreadnoughts used to be a lot more humanoid back in the 80's.
thing is a lot of the lore refers directly to a sarcophagus which sits into the dreadnought frame completely covering the presumably decimated remains of the entombed. whereas that just has a normal helmet poking out over a reinforced chest and shoulders.

i prefer the older design to be honest but i could live with the new humanoid one if they sorted out the centre section.

After some more tips folks.

What's the best way to get a plasma effect on pistols and rifles, here I mean the plasma chamber. I have some ice blue and skull white.

What's the best way to paint Terminator eagles and skull emblems on arms ? I have undercoated them with light grey. Is it a coat of white, dark wash them highlight with White ? I have some bleached bone as well if that is better than white.

Is the main cover on chainsaw swords meant to be black or blue ?

Can you paint up a standard marine to look like a sgt or captain or would you have to buy a pack ?

What's the best way to highlight the edge of devastator jet packs for a scorch or slightly rusted effect ?

Used to love warhammer. Orcs were awesome!
Spent hours and hours and all my dispoable income on figurines and about 5 different shades of the colour 'white' etc. Was getting ridiculous.
Went to a games day and meta bunch of the guys who produce the magazine (not sure if it's still going)

Luckily for me, I grew out of it at the ripe old age of 11, it was addictive though.

Plus, whipping my brothers with the red measurement sticks was always fun.

White Dwarf is the magazine and yes it's still going, I used to subscribe just to look at the pictures and customised builds

Re the plasma gun, from memory one of the eavy metal guys on the tables at last years Games Day said something like "paint the lighter colour in the recesses" (paraphrasing from memory), as the plasma/heat is coming from inside the weapon so that is where it's going to be hottest and have the most "glow".

You can paint any space barbie any way you want.

The way I like to do sgt/captain is to give them a red helmet (ooer missus). As in the codex they identify sgt/captains in that way.

So one of my imperial fist squads have a red headed beaky captain. ala;

Also, veterans can have white helmets.

Blimey, I haven't looked in this thread for a while!

I had an email through this morning that I thought might be of interest to some people.

Games Workshop emailed me a link to their "Citadel Mega Paint Set 2011", though I haven't painted (except for a quick go) for years I have to say I'm horribly tempted!

Click for the monster.

I know there is some debate over whether the GW paints are good value, but I think this many for the price is probably pretty good for the cash.

I remember seeing a version of those paint sets when I was younger (before they had the screw on lids, I think :D). I would have killed for it at the time :p

Yeah I had those!

They were all hexagonal shaped, I had a few that had red tops that a friend gave me and the rest had white tops.

They were a pain to open sometimes but did the job really well. All of them with those flip top lids are still usable whereas my later screw tops have long since completely dried out. :(
