Tabletop Warhammer?

I cracked and picked up Leviathan…..

I’m weak….

Had Leviathan arrive yesterday. Seems a lovely set to get started with. Although I've been interested in WH40K since the early 90s, I've never actually played 40K. I still have my original Rogue Trader book.

I have Dark Vengeance which I never got round to opening. I do have the re release of Space Hulk which I've played a few times.

My stepson has recently become obsessed with everything Warhammer. Hoping Leviathan will get us both playing WH40K regularly.

First lot of paints to get me going. Will get some generic white/grey/black primer spray from Halfords.
Watch now as I decide I CBA and never touch any of it.

Went into the Solihull shop today and spoke to a dude who was so enthusiastic and decided to start with crons.

Picked up a combat patrol box set to get back into the building / painting etc as a starter and got the core rule book and index cards ordered :)

Time to work out a paint scheme!

I was tempted by the index cards but then I just made my own for the exact unit I have and printed and then laminated makes things much simpler.
I've just spent 15 minutes removing the excess spruce after a cut I can see this is going to take a very long time, but that's ok.

Edit. By made my own I mean downloaded the official ones then snipped out the relevant bits.

Can someone advise if that seam down the middle of leg/knee is a mould line I need to remove? Actually looking at the box I don't think it is because those lines are highlighted when painted

So been like 40m and I've prepped two tiny pieces. Suddenly the challenge ahead becomes apparent.
Would rather do my best on it though.

Might I recommend...silver?

Get yourself on YouTube, twitter and reddit. Some awesome painters doing great things. Saw a stone themed necron army a while back that was different!

Midwinter Minis sandstone necrons are one of my favourite original themes on a 40k army.

Here's my progress for tonight. For more exciting content don't forget to like and subscribe to my channel.

Need some bluetac for the small parts I can't pin. There is no way I am going to try and paint this model assembled.

Not quite finished but painting the new Dante miniature, really nice model.

Here's Abaddon, again not 100% finished but getting there.

Edit - looked OK when browsing using my phone but on desktop the pic looks a little...big lol. How do I resize??

The thing I like most about that model is an Ultramarine is getting squished, I hate them purely because they are the focus of so many bloody games etc. Don't think the phoot has done it justice as looks a bit odd in places but think it's noise from the photo. I'd personally be pleased if I got it looking like that!

I finished off 15 poxwalkers last night. Still 15 more to do. Think I just will contrast on all. Was trying a hybrid method.

Not watched it yet but as per the Necron video above, MWM vids are often good for an interesting alternative painting idea, in this case for the Tyranids we've all just bought :p

Is there anything wrong with priming all the bits whilst still in the sprue? Can't think of a disadvantage for my plague marines at least. Other than a bit will be missing once I cut them off and remove any excess but that will be sorted later.

Edit: Just realised why it's a bad idea, mould lines.

Is priming things different colour normal? On the Putrifier, the bottles etc on the back are not green like the rest, so would you prime those white/grey etc or just stick with the green? Obv can be any colour I am just curious. Forgot my bloody blutac when I was out so I'm stuck for priming a few bits until I get it, will start preparing some other parts I guess.
