Not sure about relative to the 90s but it's not exactly a value hobby if you stick within the Games Workshop range
90s being when I last looked in to it and I was a nipper, however now I have a jerb so can maybe afford some without asking my dad lol. I've loads of boardgames with miniatures and also don't know how Warhammer would compare against those

Panting like a fiend
Seems Vallejo updated their game range and now on par with AK 3rd gen 18ml also. Some pretty awsome paint paint ranges out currently.

Wonder how many people purely move away GW because of the pots. Also their naming convention is also starting to **** me off.

I've been trying to avoid GW paints for years, 6 months after I buy a paint it seems like it's often gone solid for some colours, given I don't get to paint much I resent the need to basically buy replacement paints every year, even if I've not opened them.

Vallejo paints on the other hand I've got some of them that are 15 years old in dropper bottles and still usable, and one of my friends still has some usable ancient GW paints (rubber topped originals).

One of the "tricks" with GW stuff is often to try and get things like the "start collecting" or big release boxes if you can as they often work out a lot cheaper than buying the constituent models individually especially if you buy from a third party at 10-20% off RRP.

In my limited experience with boardgames with miniatures the GW stuff tends to be a different (slightly harder) plastic and more detailed, but at what is often a much higher price :(

Personally at the moment IMO the best way to get into GW is probably via the "small unit"/specialist games, Necromunda, Killteam or ideally Titanicus* as they're relatively cheap and quick to get into it.
I think relative to the 90's the cost has gone down a fair bit and you're dealing with plastic now not metal.

*Although they're "epic" scale rather than the normal 28mm scale for the rest, and fairly pricy per model, but they're hulking great mechs :D

Pain in the ass to paint though. I have so many in various states lol. Had to magnetise a few due to loadouts.

Space marine painting went as expected. Uneven, despite using thin coats, multiple layers started to obscure what little detail there is on the model. I'm convinced the only way to paint some things in absence of a ridiculous amount of hours practice is simply using airbrush to get smooth coats.
I recall watching a ninjon video where he said despite watching brushstroke painting guides, he could never ever get his paint the same so he just uses an airbrush to get the same result in a fraction of the time.

Seems those metal Kasrkin models I have are no longer produced (even a modern plastic I mean) and are somewhat valuable, checking eBay £10-15 per model.

Seems they got replaced by plastic Scions.

I think I have 10 of these metal Kasrkin, maybe 20, I'll have to check when I get home.

I don't think I'd sell them though they are pretty cool models.

There are 10 on auction on eBay, the highest bid was something like £6 I run it up to £29 (against auto bid) and I'm now the highest bidder.

4 days left and I don't believe for a second I'll get them at that but be interested to see how high they go.

I'm not actually that interested in buying them but it's good fun running the bids up, and not like I'll panic if I did actually win the bid, I'd actually be pretty happy at £29 again, not a chance I'll actually get them for that.

What faction are trying to start to paint?

Ak black "intense" is sexeh!!
Just doing random ones, Salamander and Imperial. The yellow is actually 'better' than the green so far. Probs just spray and be done with it.
Midwinter minis has just done a fantastic video on Salamanders. There's various videos doing the rounds of different painting techniques for certain factions. My favorite channel is prob cult of paint.
Love my airbrush. I'm late to the game so won't be wining any awards. Spend 10 hours blending and glazing? **** that **** blast it the airbrush and let it do all the heavy lifting. Important to learn the techniques tho. under shading with the airbrush still fears me with dread lol

Non metallic metal? nope I know my limits and will stay in my lane!!

Got me some chaos terminators, what's the best loadout for them? Also planning on picking up some havocs at some point.

Hard to say atm due to the lack of a proper codex. I think CSM have won a few tournaments recently though so have a look at their lists.
Or...just model what you think looks cool and don't play with douches!
For me and the guys I play with wysiwyg is nice but not essential.

There is a new plastic kasrkin box. Is nice.

There's this annoying person at the club who 3d prints crappy versions of most models and claims he "builds meta lists by accident" .

And no, hands off my havoks, I'll have them painted by 2030.

Actually they could be one of the easiest to paint. I could just spray them with the chaos, black, do some trim and then voila.

Woke up this morning checked my mail box and had an email from GW.
The nova event wow. Some of the best models yet!!!

New Iron Jaws, Fulgrim, and the below are simply stunning. There’s also new marines but I expect that was the loosing set from the wee event they did were we got more new nids as they won.

Heck if I make it to retirement at least I have something to do.
