looks good! the models generally look great... maybe a bit fragile but excellent detail. have you played the game? i read that there are a number of scenarios and wondered if it would work to jusr make up scenarios once youve played through the main ones

I played with Phil Kelly before it was released at Games-Day, seems pretty awesome. Regarding the end-game so to speak, yes, you can make your own scenario and I think it does work as long as it is done fair :)

Those red accents really make the model. Don't get me wrong it looked ace before but those complete it IMO.

TIAM - Fed up of model lines. The AOBR models are criminal for these!

Got another model finished :) Easily my best one, Tried a few highlights but they don't really appear to have worked and also used Brass with gold highlights instead of straight gold... still looks nice. Buying some Basing materials this weekend so will get a collective picture up once they are based.

That's good, it could do with more shading on the armour, do you have any black wash you could paint in the recesses? If not watered down chaos black would do.

A chance for revenge for the Chaos brethren. We rolled a Seize Ground gametype with a Spearpoint deployment which meant we deployed on opposite quarters of the board and there were 3 objectives we needed to control, an Imperial Bunker, a mysterious Eldar Webway Gate and a ruins to the North, the player who controlled the most by the end of the game wins.

I won the roll and chose to let LordHughes deploy first and take first turn. My army was all in drop pods so I remained in reserve.

Deployment:

Turn 1:

LordHughes first turn was uneventful with no enemy to shoot at, one of his squads took up a better position on the hill in his zone while the second squad and the predator moved round the left flank of the hill, the squad heading towards the ruins objective and the predator getting a better view of the battlefield.

Drop pods blotted out the sun as the first Space Wolves made their landing, My two 9 man squads (one with my Rune Priest) made landing by the woods near the Chaos right flank and immediately took up cover between the trees and the pods. The first of the five man Grey Hunter squads landed near the Bunker objective and lowered their bolters and ran to claim the fortification. The other two squads opened fire with 16 bolters and a meltagun but aiming through the trees and fallen drop pods meant they only killed a single heretic.

Turn 2:

LordHughes started off by rolling to see if his Lord and terminator retinue would turn up, of course they did! Thankfully (for me at least!) the scatter took them away from the Sons of Russ and towards a copse of trees (just where a Chaos Lord most feels at home) The first squad of marines again moved north towards the ruins. The rest of marines stood their ground and prepared to fire. Russ was smiling down on the Wolves though, despite fire from three squads only a single brother fell. (both John and myself were being very fortunate with our armour saves at this point!) At this point I very sportingly reminded LordHughes (not for the last time this game either!) that his Predator could fire, he then returned my gesture by obliterating a marine with the twin-linked lascannon.

A giant boom accompanied a fourth drop pod landing, another 8 man strong Grey Hunter squad emerging behind the Chaos lines bringing it's weapons to bear on the Chaos squad heading for the ruins objective. Their gunfire was woeful however and only two chaos warriors fell. The 2 Grey Hunter squads near the third Chaos marine squad opened up with a mix of bolters, pistols and meltaguns and managed to fell 3 of their hated enemy. One of the squads then charged in and killed another 2, LordHughes troop killed two in return and the combat was drawn.

Turn 3:

LordHughes started turn 3 by marching the Chaos Lord and his retinue out of the woods and openeing fire on the Grey Hunter squad lead by the Rune Priest, they struggled to aim through the trees and failed to kill a single man. The two chaos squads and the predator by the fourth drop pod opened fire on the newly arrived Grey Hunters to devestating effect, killing three of them. The squad on top of the hill then charged the shaken marines and dispatched another three, the Wolf Guard lead the squad by example killing two while his brothers managed to down another one. Both squads held their ground and prepared for a long fight.

The final drop pod landed near the squad on the left flank taking heavy damage and unleashed it's cargo of 6 Grey Hunters. They opened fire on the rear of the Chaos Marine squad, felling one of the ancient warriors. the two Grey Hunter squads and rune priest in cover near the bunker objective opened every weapon up on the Chaos Lord and his retinue. Sadly the powerful multi meltas were out of range and the bolters simply bounced off the Tactical Dreadnaught Armour. The 3 drop pods opened up with their storm bolters and to the disbelief of LordHughes, two of the mighty warriors fell! (John is amazingly unlucky with his terminators, somehow managing to roll 2 ones out of the two wounds he needed to save!) Orange Grey Hunter squad finally managed to finish off the third Chaos squad but suffered heavy casualties in return, leaving just 3 wolves standing. The squad consolidated towards the 2nd obkective seeking the cover of the alien webway gate. Things did not go so well on the left flank, The aspiring champion slew the remaining brothers and the wolf guard but not before the veteran had dispatched three heretics with his Wolf Claw! The lone surviving Aspiring Champion consolidated towards his brothers. In the other melee the combat remained tight with one warrior falling from each side.

Turn 4:

The Chaos Lord and his sole remaining bodyguard again advanced towards the Space Wolf position, the terminator failing to find the mark with his storm bolter. The aspiring champion baying for blood hurled himself into the fray and the Space Wolves suffered heavy casualties, with only the Wolf Guard leader left standing. His nerves held however and he held his ground.

Once again the Wolves opened up on the remaining terminators, killing the final bodyguard with a blaze of melta fire. The Rune Priest then called on the elements and a series of lightning bolts left the Chaos Lord wounded but standing. The lone wolf guard fell to the aspiring champion but not before he dealt his enemy a mortal wound in return. The three remaining brothers consolidated in the Ruins objective, claiming it for the dark gods.

Turn 5:

Turn 5 began with the wounded Chaos Lord finally moving into assault range, facing down an entire Grey Hunter squad and the Rune Priest. LordHughes final action of the turn was to fire on the remaining grey hunters holding the Webway gate with his predator, obliterating another with the Lascannon. The squad in the ruin failed to find their mark though. The Chaos Lord screamed his adulation to the Chaos Gods and hurled himself into combat killing 3 marines in the blink of an eye suffering a second wound from the wolf guard's wolf claw in return. The wolves, faced with this avatar of death turned and ran (we actually forgot that terminators couldn't do a sweeping advance but thankfully the Lord didn't catch them!)

The Squad led by the Rune Priest regrouped and with the aid of the squad in the bunker finally killed the rampant Chaos Lord. The two marines by the Eldar gate opened fire on the Chaos in the ruins but they were protected by the ruined building.

Turn 6:

LordHughes only chance was to kill the two marines holding the middle objective and go for a draw, the Predator once again destroyed a marine leaving the Wolf Guard leader holding the objective alone! The Chaos Marines fared less well, the bolter and heavy bolter rounds failing to find the wolf.

There was little to do for the Wolves, the Rune Priest's squad moved towards the objective as fast as they could to support their brother but the thick woods hampered their movement. The Wolf Guard fired a shot out of cover but couldn't find his mark.

Shamikebab rolled a 3 ending the game, the Wolves had won the battle holding two objectives to one but it was a costly victory with many slain on both side!

Survivors:

6 man Grey Hunter squad (didn't even get shot at!)
4 (of 7) Grey Hunters with Wolf Guard and Rune Priest
Lone Wolf Guard

4 Chaos Marines
1 Predator

A really narrow game, I was too agressive with my last two drop pods and both squads were utterly destroyed. If LordHughes had been a bit luckier with his terminators (both in teleporting and armour saves!) the game could have swung the other way. For such an expensive squad they only killed 3 marines (and that was the Lord himself in one round of combat) A drop pod army was fairly expensive for this game (it would have been better against a more ranged army)

Great playing with you John, it's nice to relearn the game alongside someone :)

Looks good.... very good infact :) Extra splash of colour really helps it

Yeah that will be my next step just before basing :)

I mixed the basecoat purple with some White and attempted to highlight just not sure how well they actually turned out in all honesty, feel they look a tad poo

Great battle report Dan :)

One day my terminators will land in the right place and go to work :) If I had not rolled that double 1 and got 2 or 3 terminators and the lord in combat It would have been a swift a merciless slaughter, I was very unlucky with that deep strike :(

Oh and Dan, you are a very kind opponent and it was great to play you again.

Too much on the rifle for me and don't want to touch the circle on the gun or the antenna or I would have to do them on the other suits and every vehicle. Trying to be consistent with them is a pain.

People at my local club want me to do an armies on parade so keeping the theme will be important I guess.
