Terraria - Dig, fight, explore, build

Due to severe work related rsi in my hand I cant currently use a mouse so I am gaming on the pad, ive seen quite a few opinions that its not too hard on a pad but thanks for your input.
I could get hold of a lefty mouse and retrain the opposite hand I guess..
 
I have RSI in my right wrist from too much Piano, so I cant play this game with the LMB for all the digging.

i will try playing it with the gamepad instead.

Mining is too hard with the LMB for me, its odd that it cant be remapped to the space bar with the E button for jump instead.

They only turn up if they have a house (10x6 min, door, floor, walls, roof, table, chair, light, back wall) and certain requirements are met. Merchant is around 50 silver, nurse is 2 life crystals used, demo guy is holding some explosives. And the others that I don't have yet.

You've got to build a house for the guide too.
 
I'm really unlucky with drops, only decent stuff I got was from some kind people on the ocuk server... I really got to start my single player game and gear up!

I just started playing this at lunch, 45 minutes seemed to shrink to 2 minutes :(
 
yes thanks evilsod, i didn't know all that but will build it when i get home.

Also, on the ocuk server do we all need to build our own homes or can we squat? Im just wondering, as ive tried walking for ages only to get killed... And then returned to where i started. But i am working offline to get a bit stronger lol

Danny built a house out of gold at the player spawn now.

If you've got loads of dirt then sure. Just build up for a bit (not right to the top though) then build along :) It also doubles up as nice star catcher. However if a meteorite falls on the bridge you won't reap its full benefit. On the island you'll find a chest and the island usually contains a nice amount of ore too. I found two within my small world.

Avoid the map viewer - they spoil the fun :)

As mentioned, building up to find floating islands is good. Just make sure you destroy your walkway after you or you'll annoy other people on the server. If you can get some meteorite ammo for a gun you can find floating islands a lot easier, too...

Erm... ok perhaps the dungeon behind the old man was a bad idea :D
