Terraria - Dig, fight, explore, build

Hmm... Bad news. There was a server crash last night and I can't get the OcUK server map to load any more. Trying backups now :/

edit: the world is loading in singleplayer..weird.

Oh I thought it was just a firewall blocking me. Explains why I couldn't log on then.

How do you get a surface deep mushroom farm? Do you literally have to wait for the grass to grow up? Or just plant seeds on the surface?

For the record, I've just given Antar the password for the OcUK server (if Aedus or FrenchTart need to keep track). I figure he should be trustworthy enough :p

Ah well, I'll probably do it when the new patch is out (when is that supposed to be?). I could use a full rebuild anyway really.

The Blade of Grass really has made the Jungle 10x easier. It was so tedious having to kill the Big Stingers with Vilethorn, for 1x7 damage a hit, now I just smack them with the sword 7 times.

Is there any point in the Natures Gift equippable at all? I must've found at least 7 of the damn things now. All I can think of is it would be useful for a Goblin Army.

Ok, no prob about Antar having it though we generally try to keep to the rules of making people go through Aedus. I know that certain people on here are definitely trustworthy but we're trying to be a bit anal about the rules so we can reduce the likelihood of griefers :)

The fiery greatsword and the nightmare pick are pretty good against the stingers too. That said, I've not seen the jungle in the new patches so it may be different now.

Ok seriously how long does this Goblin invasion go on for?

If anyone wants to join in the fight theres a seemingly never ending invasion going on on the OcUK server.

edit: finally the invasion is over. only took 2 straight days. Then a Blood Moon replaced it :p

Dryad finally spawned for me this morning \o/ but not in the top rooms, she spawned pretty much immediately after I added a water candle to the shelfs in the basement where she is now living. Kinda didn't want any NPC's in there since it's meant to be my guys bedroom, but 'spose my guy can't complain if he has a half naked female dryad walking around his room :P

By the way have a spare Nightmare Pickaxe if anyone wants, managed to get my Molten one today.

I can pop on with my noob/test character I've got here.

Don't suppose you would have any blue mushroom seeds I could steal if I meet you on there? :)

Just after you left I came across another 2 mushroom locations and nabbed some seeds from them ><

Btw I forgot to mention. There was something really odd with the Fallen Stars going on. Not sure if it was connected to the Goblin Invasion (don't get why) but they couldn't be picked up. Neither me or Antar could do it and neither of us had full inventories.

Oh and as of that Goblin Invasion I now have 450 spikey balls :p

I had the fallen star problem too ^

Could pick up some but not others :/

Edit: also the spiky balls are good against skeletron if you are using multiple platforms. Place them all before and as he flies through em he gets nailed

Confirmation that once planted in suitable conditions, blue mushrooms will expand upwards into any background terrain:

Very very slowly though. Now I must be off to get some mud, also I'm going to try using the water to flood each row below it to see if that speeds them up, from what I remember natural underground mushroom patches grew a lot faster when they were flooded.

The only problem is that I have far too many blue mushrooms and not enough orange ones. I need to figure out how to make an orange mushroom farm too.

I just killed him with the Thorn Chakram :p Once I finally killed his damn hands he's so trivial. You just stand there slightly out of range spamming the Chakram for 20 damage a hit. Took me maybe 7 Healing Potions, 2 of which were self inflicted due to falling. Just need to explore the dungeon now but I think I might try and craft a Molten Hamaxe first. Those Spikes take forever to break.

I just can't seem to reliably produce Obsidian.

Damn. Are you still on there? :p

That was my first ever blue mushroom farm, if you have a melee weapon with long range, such as the Blade of Grass or the Murasama, you can get all of the mushrooms very easily. I used a similar layout for my normal mushroom farm, except after every row of dirt, I put a row of bricks underneath. This stops vines from growing and stopping the growth of mushrooms on the next layer down.

I'd visit that farm every now and again, usually it'd be chock-a-block with mushrooms. Usually around 550 or so. My normal mushroom farm was slightly smaller, and would only produce 5-10 mushrooms per visit, because of weeds hindering the growth of the mushrooms.

I just can't seem to reliably produce Obsidian.
Either make an infinite water and an infinite lava tank (search google/Terraria forums), or dig all the way down to hell, in a very slim tunnel, 2 blocks wide. Any water that you come across on the way down, funnel it down one side of your tunnel. When you finally reach a large pool of lava, funnel that down the opposite side of your tunnel. Then force the water and lava to meet, they will produce obsidian and for the most part, you can keep mining the same block and obsidian will continually be produced until one body of liquid is gone. I'll find a vid in a minute.

E: Didn't take long to find a vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuMV6teFzko

Hope that helps. :)
