Terrible Jaguar re-brand

Driving a Lexus with a CVT is a bit like sampling early death though, in all fairness.

The thing is, Lexus drivers won't care what the gearbox is. All they want is comfort in a car that is smooth and quiet. Having driven a CVT with 300hp behind it, unless I was pushing on around twisty stuff, it made zero difference to a traditional automatic/DCT.

What's the saying?

"There's no such thing as bad publicity"

Mostly BS, but there is some truth to it I think.

Probably not when it comes to cars though.

And more importantly, Lexus actually know how to make a good car and have quality control, so they don't break!

jaguar should have sponsored a logo competition on OC ... realised that J & font reminds me of JCPenny us dept store

Not sure my point was super clear. Lexus are ignoring a part of the market that DO care about the CVT box. Id love a 3.5l rx450 but no chance with that box, not until I'm 60. The original comment was how we don't buy lexus over BMW and Merc rivals.

True but do regular punters really care about that? Lexus for example in the states is normally the top selling Luxury Brand or at least up there most years as an equal to the German big 3.

Oh I agree this is most likely the end of Jaguar but it isn't like they didn't try. They actually put out some really good products with the XF, XE, F-Pace and I-Pace. Even now the I-Pace is most likely one of the best all rounded EV's on the market despite it being out for years. They had to try and do something different. Maybe if they stuck a Land Rover badge on the front they might have sold better.
I didn't like the ipace. it felt under-cooked when I drove a relatively early one. I do think it would have sold in huge numbers though if it was positioned as an electric evoque.

You are a small minority in that regard. The real reason people do not buy Lexus in this country has got nothing to do with the CVT gearbox. It is all down to a perceived brand image and once that sticks it is very hard to get rid of it. A bit like Jaguar in that regard having an old mans image whereas the vast majority of their products couldn't be any more the opposite.

BMW sold 362k in America last year and Lexus sold 356k. Both more than Audi and Mercedes. Lexus have an incredible image over there as one of the best but for some reason over here we just don't have that sentiment despite topping UK reliability surveys every year. Jaguar arguably suffered the same issue. They tried to make a better product than the competition but the general public were not interested. All they cared about was having a posh badge for as little as possible on the monthly payments.

Lexus has an old man's image because the cars drive like they're designed for old men....the CVT is one example of this. Lexus can make exciting cars if they want to, just look at the lfa. They just chose not to, sticking to their core demographic of old men.

All Toyota Prius are old man cars too? As that is essentially what a Lexus is for the most part but on a more luxurious scale. If anything you have just proven my point as you associate Lexus as an old mans car but for some reason BMW and Mercedes are not. What makes a equivalent BMW or Mercedes more youthful?

Perhaps the point of the campaign was to cause a bit of a storm, everyone is talking about it... but given the dire situation the brand is in, it's probably doubtful.

As for Lexus, they make some great cars, and statistically might be better than the German equivalents for reliability, but their marketing and dealer network is miles behind. I had an LC500 for a week and it was lovely, but the infotainment and associated tech feels a decade behind the likes of BMW. It drove quite well - not as nicely as something like an 8 Series - but it's a big cruiser really so not a major problem... the engine was a cracker. Would I actually buy one? Maybe. Their warranty deal is brilliant.

Almost 50 posts in and not one mention of “woke” or “broken Britain”. I’m disappointed.

It’s clearly a thrust towards the Asian market. Unsurprising as the local target market is dying of old age.
That advert isn’t aimed at the Asian market - they don’t like alphabet people or those with higher melanin levels than themselves.

lol are you arguing it is aimed at enthusiasts or something? What is your point about the Prius? There couldn't be a more bland/vanilla car (maybe the Honda Jazz).

Driving dynamics, performance models that aren't just stickers and tat

Not sure why you can't grasp the design intent of a Lexus is for old men.

Ah okay, I see what you mean! I remember that they briefly trialled conventional autos with models like the RC200T. So they likely can just include this as an option, just weird that they don't.
