*** The 2010 Gym Rats Thread ***

Had a great session today, my deadlifts are coming on leaps and bounds. I'm increasing the weight by 2.5kg a week. And always just struggling the right amount each time.

Obviously expecting that to slow down eventually, but in the mean time, I love it!

Decided to have a quick lye down after training quads earlier. Also owing to the fact I couldn't really walk without my legs shaking uncontrollably!

30 minutes deffinatley turned into an hour and a half! Feeling great for it though :)

Just come back from A&E :(

Just after my post earlier 15:00 I was warmed up as and throwing out some 5x5 overhead press action and on the last rep of my fifth set something in my shoulder or neck went rrrrrrrrrrrrriiipppp, It sounded like tearing paper or cloth (Oh yes it was painful) and still is.

Anyway, luckily nothing's broken but they told me I've torn a shoulder muscle and by the looks of it something in my neck (my right trap is solid and bloody painful to touch)

I will be pretty much out of action for at least a couple of weeks :( and even more so regarding shoulder exercises

Had a pull day today and managed to dead 140 for 5 again, the sets afterwards were pretty poor though and I seemed to get pretty bad back pump dunno if I should evaluate form or something. Also dropped the weight on barbell rows and slowed down the negatives and absolutely killed my forearms and lats. Didnt manage to do many chins after that and finished with some bicep work.#

And that sounds hella sore cybernetic :o I pulled a muscle in my neck (or twinged it or something =/) two weeks ago while shoulder pressing too, hurt to tilt my head lol.

I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary at all, No warning signs.

The weight went up pretty smooth (although it was hard) I've been stuck on 55Kg for a couple of weeks, Nailed it last week and so today is 57.25KG on it went and on my last rep it happened. Luckily I managed to drop the bar down towards the sofa and one end of the bar landed on soft cushions or else it would have gone with a right crash.

I'm far from being a baby when it comes to pain but I've never been in so much agony to be honest, I cant turn my head to the right or look up and I'm unable to lift my right arm past shoulder hight without some pretty crazy pain :( The nurse said to keep my shoulder and neck moving as much as possible :( and not to do any weights for at least a couple of weeks and not to exercise my shoulder for longer.

She also said if the swelling and pain hasn't got any better by Friday then I have to book a local GP appointment too :( To be honest I'll be there anyway because it's killing me :p

If it is as bad as it sounds, might you not need surgery??

To be honnest I'd go and see your GP ASAP and get reffered to a specialist and some x-rays & MRI done.

When I subluxed mine and weakened my RC the doctor at the hopsital told me I'd just 'sprained my neck', as it has swollen to hold my shoulder in it's socket! told me to dose up on painkillers and rest up.

It's a complex joint so will take a long time to heal. It would get knocked out on the x-trainer, over head extensions were a no no, I could still press but it felt very unstable. If I were you I'd seriously consider taking 2 weeks or so off. Adjust your diet accordingly so you minimise fat gain. You might find you have to get familiar with incline walks as your only CV.

When I finally got an MRI done a year later there was still fluid in the socket and signs of some minor tears. Had the option for surgery if I wanted it/if it got worse. Touch wood my RC's are stronger now and it very very rarely mis-behaves.

See a specialist.

I'm gradually working my way back up in the gym, it feels great to be squatting properly again. It's been nearly 2 years since I've done a genuine squat, I have no power!

It was a bit funny at the gym today, a guy was using the rack for squats and I asked if I could work in with him. He rapidly blasts up to 100kg quarter squats while I do:

60x15
70x13
70x13
70x13

So I'm straining and sweating banging those little weights, then we swap and he's nonchalantly dipping down 8 inches. Like we're doing different exercises almost!

Unlucky with the injury T1Cybernetic :( As said go and see a specialist and whatever you do, don't train through if it still hurts even slightly or you'll worsen it in the long run (trust me)

ATG or go home! Ignore him, slightly lighter weight to achieve perfect form = win.

Thanks for your replies regarding my drinking question. :D

edit: Decided to change my routine a little this week. I'm doing 4-6 reps with the same weight on all compound lifts.

Rc injuries are a bugger, and take a long while to heal did mine a while back and learned to respect it ever since

I'm wondering if mine is this or not....Didn't feel any pressure or tearing when working out on Friday? But I did go shooting on Sunday, which hurt a little bit but that was around the pit area, so don't think it was that.

Bah, oh well, week off will do me good
