*** The 2010 Gym Rats Thread ***

I pulsed Leucine during my cut 3-4 times per day. And was also using EAA's. Be interesting to see how I do with out them next time. I've got some HMB that I brought ages back to use too.

These's obviously aren't essential but every little helps.

That's me done my first couple of weeks on my new programme and I'm enjoying it so far, especially the whole being done within around 45 minutes every time now. I'll give it another few weeks before deciding if I'm making any real progress but I think I am, stiff-legged deadlifts has definitely gone up with the fewer reps.

On an unrelated note I did try a banana for the first time in years a couple of days ago - it wasn't quite as horrendous as I remember but not that great either, why do people eat yellow fruit? There's just something a bit wrong with it. :p

I don't think he means fat loss aids, more like supps like HMB which are supposed to help retain muscle mass and avoid muscle catobolism when trying to lean up. (Though I've not heard of rapidcuts it sounds similiar)

Yup, i have hmb mainly for night use of course, the rapidcuts hardcore is a fatburner, i don't actually need a far burner per-se but this has the added benefit of sparing muscle when cutting. Some folk love it whilst others are meh.

I find fat loss easy, just go keto and keep an eye on those macros, plus work is busy which helps a fair bit, anyway that's still 3-4months away.

Gains have slowed down, so i've bumped carbs up and it seems to have kick started things again.

Oh and my back now feels like it has muscle, i could feel it bouncing around when on the cross trainer, which felt nice.

Downside is the gym has a new lat pull down, not cable like the old one more rigid with a series of bars, perhaps it does a better job which is why my back had a growth spurt who knows.

OK this is annoying me now. I've upped my weights quite significantly now I'm getting stronger but on the dumbells pressing movements quite often result with a pain in my palm (feels almost like cramp). It goes away straight away once I stop lifting.

With some pull movements my wrists also begin to experience a similar pain. Any ideas what this is? Some of my mates say I'm lifting weights that my hands can't cope with but that sounds ridiculous!

Might be to do with your grip. If you're just letting the DB's sit in your palm and push your wrist back this might be it.

Squeezing the grips too hard could also be causing it.

Could try a 'suicide' grip (thumb wrapped round) see if this helps. Just don't drop the DB's on your face!

A few questions for you gym rats if you wouldnt mind helping me out.

1: Whats the reasoning behind taking protein powder with fruit juice? It seems to get recommended a lot over just using water, or taking it with milk. Something to do with protein absorbsion, But it would be nice to know a little more :)

2. Whats the healthiest oil available to cook with, Something I can pick up from Asda so nothing to obscure.

3. Greek Yogurt when cooking, Is it the best option? I make everything from scratch so I can control pretty much exactly what I'm taking in. I just use greek Yorgurt right now, But it seems high in fat. But I get told its good for you as it's pretty much untouched by artificial sweeteners, colouring and all those other bits that get added to make food last longer.

1. depending on what you take your powder with the quicker or slower it is absorbed.

take with water - 15 minutes
take with orange juice - 30 minutes
take with milk - 1 hour

i just made these numbers up but it should give you a rough idea of what i mean.

i usually take 2 shakes when i take a shake.

first shake is 1 scoop with water.

second shake is 1 scoop with milk.

2. the healthiest cooking oil is ground nut oil which is the fancy name for peanut oil. (google healthiest cooking oil and see what comes up, or google top 5 healthiest cooking oils, etc)

this is the oil i use.ground nut oil can be bought from asda and sainsburys, its roughly £1.50 a litre i think. i dont know about the other supermarkets because i dont shop there.

3. low fat greek yoghurt? thats what i eat/use.

Got my first strength client today :D

/excited :)

Awesome stuff.

I've my first 'client' today too. Trying to get some PT done in my spare time to generate some extra income. However the gym that's local that I use don't 'rent' out and with the small amount I'm doing would leave me out of pocket most likely!

It's one of my friends so will be his 'training partner' but I won't be doing much training ;) I know all the instructors down there it's just management I'll have to worry about.

Hopefully a few months down the line, if he's happy to, we'll post his progress up.

If i lived near you i'd rent you out so much.

Psycho, doesn't taking that second shake with milk cancel out the shake with water? When it gets to your stomach it's all going to mix up and take longer to digest

i down the first shake in 3 seconds flat.

i usually then prepare some food as well as the second shake, 5-10 minutes will have passed, and i usually sip on the second shake not down it, and drink it with or after my food. it will take up to 15 minutes to finish the second shake as i slowly sip it.

i reckon by the time the food and second shake are ready to eat/drink, some of the first will have already of hit my system or about to. i dont know for sure ive never read up on it, but im assuming thats how it would work.

so theres a 5-10 min gap, and some food in between both shakes.

A little gem posted elsewhere today:

Training in the toning zone (12 - probably 20 max) reps will develop muscle without big increases in size. The muscle will get bigger, but not by a huge amount. It will also develop to a more aesthetic shape, with good insertion points etc, and combined with a low body fat percentage will create a toned physique. So there is such thing as muscular toning.

!

Total fail. Author should be shot.

OT: Decent skinfold calipers aren't cheap! Cheapy plastic ones are around £25 which is still way over priced for what it is, plastic and a spring! Hardpenden are the 'industry standard' but come in at £150 on the web (retail for £235), they warrant the price but it's still a lot of money! Reason I'm considering these is that I will be needing these along with a few other bits for my PT.

I think I'm going to start doing PT sessions next year after the competition. I've been helping friends out for a while with routines and form etc for a while. But next year I'd like to do it on the side for people other than friends, a bit of extra income would be lovely and I really enjoy doing it

Plus if I do well in the compeition and get a good finish it might give me a good selling point :p
