*** The 2010 Gym Rats Thread ***

Do they put something in the water round your way? 270kg for reps is pretty huge, 180kg is nothing to be sniffed at either.

Init! 180kg, raw, is still very respectable no matter how long you have been training. 270kg...300kg is absolutely out of this world. He should claim the world title.

For the record, I do believe you as I am quite aware that there are some exceptionally strong people out there, that the world has not seem yet.

Very, very impressive lifting.

How bad is the pain?

i dont have any pain unless i do certain things, its a small sharp pain because i stop doing whatever is causing it to stop myself from causing more damage. when the pain happens i would put it on a scale of 7/10, its not an unbearable pain, like you want to chop your arm off, but its enough to stop me doing whatever causes it very quickly.

Sonny go see a chiropractor or physio mate, Im sure they will sort it out quickly mate...

im going to wait a day or 2 and see what happens. its saturday today and sunday tomorrow, im pretty sure they will be all closed anyway if i even wanted to go.

Sounds like some shoulder instability.

hopefully not, i took 3 super cissus rx tabs last night before bed, it seems okay now, but ive avoided using the arm, ill give it a wee test later on to see if there's any pain, cissus can mask pain so im not going to test it while it still may be in my system, anybody know how long it lasts for? want to make sure its all out of my system before testing my shoulder.

Hang clean to push press for reps (3X10) is an absolute killer!. i had to sit down after each set gasping for breath...il be doing these for reps more often :D

If these are not in anyone's workout, they should be! :D Awesome exercise, crush so many muscles!

i reckon i might of done a delvis today. my shoulder is sore. i can move it any direction i want and i can pick up things and move them about no problem. its when theres resistance i get a sharp pain. for example if i stick my hand on a table top and lean on it slightly.

so if my arm/shoulder gets pushed into its socket i get pain, otherwise any other movement is fine.

i was doing overhead presses which i think caused it or it may have been the deadlifts. it was fine during all my sets, i felt a slight twinge but nothing major. and hour later and its giving me problems. hopefully by tomorrow it will be fine, but im going to rest it for 2 days and see how it is.

HAH!!! :D:D:D

Is that what its called now?....'Uh ohhhh...I did a Delvis!!! :o'

Seriously though, hope yours isn't like mine, mines hurting now, only did a tesco shop!!!! :(

Stupid thing is i've been on a waiting list for god knows how long...getting annoying

pain free now, im guessing it was either a pulled muscle or the cissus is working its magic. i only took 1 tab this morning and 3 last night. will take another tab before bed just to be sure.

im pretty sure its fine otherwise it should have hurt a lot more when i was doing a workout. the pain appeared after the workout.

all's back to normal for now. will see how it feels tomorrow. i am benching tomorrow so i will take it nice and slow and see if anything hurts.

Do any of you get much hatred for working out.

I nipped out in a tight fitting tee and got the full range of comments, made for an interesting afternoon, some very jealous and sad lads out there :D

Girls up here are funny creatures, because they know they can't have you or what not they just give you abuse with the "steroids" comments. But when I do shows and what not they are all over me like a rash.

Lads tend to say nothing but you know they are saying something behind your back to their mates etc, they just keep it quiet. But yep jealousy is everywhere! But just think to yourself that you = 100x better then them.

Not really, aren't you the same person who had a girl at checkouts scared? Maybe smiling could help these problems :p

Some people call me gay for working out, but thats more because I often act it and play along (honest!) :p

Generally, women like it.

I get asked if I play rugby a fair bit. I have had the odd comment of both buys and girls about being 'massive'. In my first year of uni when I was a total n00b and actually had very little mass I'd wear clothes to try and show it off as much as possible! But now I do actually have reasonable mass wearing clothes like that is uncomfortable and I don't really like attracting attention to myself. I haven't the need to wear tight tops as my shape shows through on regular clothing now. Also having a shaved head doesn't help with the image much!

You'll always get the 'I could be that big/stacked' comments but the difference is they're sat on their arse saying it while we're actually doing it.

Im an intj, i don't do smiling ;)

Besides i smile on the inside.

Just noticed the comments of late that's all.

As for clothing i normally wear baggy stuff to hide what's underneath, yesterday i felt like bucking the trend to see what reactions i would get :D

Ive never had to many comments like that before but in the last week for some reason there have been more than i have ever had. The best ones being:

One of my best frieinds who trains quite a lot, just in a way i dont fully agree with, told me off for buying clothes that are massively too small. My response was its not muscle your looking at its just my awesome showing through :).

The other was an old friend I saw on the bus to the gym after not seeing him for a while. I was wearing this grey hoody I bought a few weeks ago which in all honesty shrunk a tad in the wash but still looks fine imo. He asked if I was training for anything in specific so I told him about the powerlifting comp next weekend, he just looked at me and says "You look ready" :).

DarkShadow:

Perhaps you could cut the volume down and do 3 x 5 which would still alow you to lift heavy yet recover. Or possibly 3 x 6 or even 3 x 3.

Or you could even pyramid over the week for example:

Monday: 5 x 5
Wednesday: 4 x 3
Friday: 3 x 2

Increasing weight accordingly.

One big ascending pyramid, just another idea :) no idea on it's effectiveness!
Thanks for your input.

I'll be implementing the following as of tomorrow:

Mon - DLs 5X5 - Big, explosive reps.
Wed - Rack Pulls 3X3
Fri - DLs 3X3 - Just heavy

I'm just thinking about my squats, on wed throwing in just one set of 5 reps?

3min mark - Just the right amount of jelly mmmhmm! :D

There are 2 women at our gym. Beautiful and I bet they can lift more than me. One was doing pull ups and she had a shocking back. And she still looked so feminine in the right places!
