*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

Cant argue with that at all, I'm well jealous.
Some oly shoes are on my wish list, just need to try a few pairs to find something that fits first!

Yeah I wanted to try some on at this place in Artillery Lane near Liverpool Street but they were crap getting back to me about sizes they had in stock and I didn't want to go to work super early so I could go there first and find they didn't have stuff in my size.

I've read the Adidas ones are narrow-ish and don't have a big toe box and that seems true. The Nike ones are supposeed to be a bit roomier, no idea about the other makes.

Ok here are some fresh pics of me after 4 weeks of dieting and my new routine.

I have dropped body weight from 70kg to 66kg:

Its hard to make a judgement call on visual progress, could you post up some of your old pics so they can be seen side by side.

4kg drop is good, but you should also be benefiting from newbie gains in the gym, so a little concerned that maybe that 4kg is a little to much as you should be addig muscle mass as well, and your diet could be to few cals to support good muscle growth as well.

<3 HST

I find the first two weeks (15's) the hardest purely because they're so aerobic!

Weeks 3-4 for me ( 2x10's ) come the end of week 4 on what is getting a decent weight for me. 15's felt far too light :D

We're on 5's now though and I'm enjoying it most. Loving my dips, cranked the weight up on those. BW(96kg) + 15kg on the belt. Upper body PUMP!

I think I'm going to complete this cycle, being my first HST ever, then do another full cycle again.

Yea I agree. My diet is very low calorie wise. It's about 1500-1600 calories.

I burn 200 after weights on cardio 3-4 times a week so it's defo deficient calorie wise.

But at least I'm losing weight!

My protein intake is at around 160g per day.

Please don't lie.

BMR = 66 + (13.7*70) + (5x172.5) - (6.76*31)

BMR = 66 + 959+ 862.5 - 209.56

BMR = 1677

*1.4 = 2349

10% = 234.9

2349 - 234.9 = 2114

So why are you eating 1400 cals not 2100?

Morba (or anyone else to be fair), you got any ideas on how to build a make shift sled kind of thing? (I'm hoping you know what I mean)

kd

There are a few videos of people making them with an old tire and rope or chains. They seem to work ok, and obviously very cheap.

if purely losing weight is your goal then your doing just fine. I was under the impression though that you wanted to lose fat and build muscle? if so eat more as Skills clearly pointed out.

15's are difficult to guage as you don't want to go too light nor to heavy! I generally only have about a 5KG/10KG jump on most lifts from 15's to 10's.

Got a link in my Doggcrapp log of my progress with HST.

Deffers do another cycle of HST after having a week off and a a week to recalculate your weights for round 2. I used to do some 1RM's at the end of the first deload week. I think when I return to HST I'll make it an 8 week program with 2 weeks of tripples, relatively low volume and just compound lifts. I still felt strong come the end of 5's and like I had more in the tank.

Made my biggest PB gains on HST in the shortest space of time.

I'll check your log out. If you update it when you do HST that would be great, it would probably assist me when I come to round 2 next month.

yeah he knows, pretty much echo what bennyc has put. There wasnt as much difference between my 15's and 10's as there was between my 10's and 5's :)

When you follow the program for 2-3 cycles the weights do ramp up. If i remember correctly though, CP you didnt actually test your 15/10/5 RM's on all exercises did you? this could be why your finding some things a little tough going.

No we did on most of the exercises, we tested them the week before we started the cycle though. However, some exercises we didn't test because they were swapped in later in the cycle (DB Fr Raise for Up BB Row for example). I had a lot of time off from lifting prior to this so I have found I have struggled with some exercises where others I have picked up again quickly, as expected really. I've had nearly a year off from weights until this cycle :(

They should be pretty easy to make. Base plate with a 2 inch thick pole sticking out of it and a loop to stick a chain on.
Most places sell sleds quite cheap tbh, might be worth just buying one.

Hmm, seems like it should be interesting, cheers guys, I'll have a look into costs, and then possibly making own otherwise.
