Guys is the "pump" a sign of how hard you have been working etc?

I have been working hard at weights since October going to failure for each muscle and doing multiple exercises per muscle.

I think i got what is called the "pump" earlier. My biceps went really tight and even looked bigger than usual.Cant say for sure though as i really don't know what this elusive thing is.

The pump is definitely something you want to achieve during a workout if size is your aim. By getting that pump, in simple terms you are effectively stretching the muscle fibres, which in turn allow for more size when they heal.

That's why when training for size, you should concentrate on what exercises and weights give you the best bump, not just what massages your ego

99% of the time i will go away sore and knackered and usually lift 5 sets of 5-8 reps of 75 % of my maximum and also try to lift the heaviest i can for a set or two. It's weird as i have been on a calories deficit for 3 months eating around 1200 - 1600 for 3 months.Last night i said **** it and pigged out and had 2700 or so calories mostly carbs. You reckon this could be something to do with having more nutrients in my body?

Getting a pump on a calorie deficit is difficult, because chances are you're on low carbs and /or lower sodium

Trying to achieve a pump with lower than normal levels of either of these is really difficult, and if you do get a pump, it won't be nearly as strong as a pump on a decent diet.

Here's something for you try, next time you train, put a nice helping of salt on your meal, like, quite a lot. The pump you'll get will be ridiculous :D I'm obviously not recommending you do this regularly, just as a test

If your carb loaded you will pump more yes. The pump is a sign of hypertrophy, and it is also like coming, ask arnold.

Yea that makes sense been of low cal and carb diet and been feeling like death.
Gonna up carbs and cals a little and try intermittent fasting for fat loss.

Lol might give it a bash on Monday :D

Cheers fella.

I had been using PhD Diet Whey, which in my opinion's pretty good, and the Belgian chocolate's damned tasty, even in water. However, I ran out, and having been unable to find anywhere up here that stocks it, I resorted to buying an equivalent they were selling at the gym I go to. It's H2N diet whey, vanilla flavour (which was all they had), and it's awful. I literally have to down in one and as fast as possible, or I'll start heaving. Luckily I only bought a 900g tub of it, so it should be gone soon. Anyone else have any supplements they literally have to suffer?

Talking of pump... Had forearm pump today. Pretty sure it comes from grip strength gaining. What kind of evil was this though? My left forearm was not happy!

Leucine/Gluatmine shake first thing when waking up isn't pleasant

Creatine Ethyl-Ester is possibly the most foul supplement I've ever had the misfortune to taste though

I normally take mine with juice in the morning, although tyrosine has a weird after taste to it too!

I get some pump doing lower rep stuff, but it isn't as severe as higher rep/short rest stuff. I very rarely train to failure.

If I'm gripping anything I always get a big forearm pump. Dem vasculations.

Speaking of which, I seem to have acquired a second vein on my anterior delt.
