*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

Also did you know that celery is calorie negative and takes more calories to chew than it yields? Also ice water actually burns calories too as your body has to heat up your core to compensate!

Running away from bigfoot will also burn cals.

Well seeing as you're about the size of bigfoot, can I just run away from you to get the same effect? ;)

Also, fun topics for the day:
Anyone have issue getting to sleep on rest days? I find it unbelievably hard because I'm not really tired because my body doesn't feel worked....

Anyone considered Yoga for flexibility/mobility? (I'm going to get abused for this one aren't I.....)

kd

Yoga is boss. End of.

Get in something active on your off days like some mobility or some very light cardio, you could even do some gentle core work. Try spreading an hours worth of activity over the day so you have some of everything. I like skipping in between work sessions :p.

Aye, that's what I was considering, some kind of Yoga DVD or something to help with mobility/flexibility on rest days. The activeness probably wouldn't be a bad shout too. Brought it up when I remembered that I know a couple of Olympians do things like Ballet/climbing on their off days to help weaknesses they have.

KingPin, we actually have a 'body balance' class at the local gym xD

Must admit, doing it with girls definitely ups the benefit though xD (the class, nothing else... although....)

Yeah, I have :p

Not as much as I probably should mind, but I don't actually feel I have huge gaps in my mobility at the moment, which is quite nice :)

It's certainly something I need to look at more though, but yeah.

Right I have a problem.

Last week for all my best intentions I only managed to fit in 1 cardio session. :(

For me to get at least 3-4 sessions in a week I HAVE to do it after my weights.

What that means is that I am going to have to shorten my routine in order to have 20mins to do some cardio.

As for tomorrow I have a dedicated cardio day.

Should I do, the eliptical, swimming or rows?

Drop the cardio, get your weights routine a smidge more intense (post it up unless I've missed it) and make sure your diet is on point and consistent.

You really don't need to be doing cardio at your bf% (if anyone ever really does!) so unless your doing it for other reasons (sports or you LOVE cardio~!?) it's not worth the psychological impact it's clearly having on you.

Well, I was the only guy in the class most of the time and most of the other ladies were old. However the girl I went with used to wear tight trousers which went see through as she bent over.:p:cool: So as long as I was positioned behind her it would take my mind of the pain of stretching my body where it didn't want to go. :)

Hey! I'm currently sitting here practicing my stealth hip stretch whilst writing an essay xD

Managed 3x3 100kg squats today, couple of non depth ones but hey, plus 5x5 65kg ones help teach depth and speed more, pleased with that.

Kelly came into Crossfit as was like, "hey you mother ****ers all kinds of broken yo."

He's now fixed everyone and made himself mad dollah in the process.

He's addressing one of the biggest problems with Crossfit.

Damn, part of my enjoyment of hating Crossfitters was the whole 'fittest on Earth EVAAARRRR.... except when we injure ourselves'. Don't take this away from me Kelly! :(

For yoga check out some Rodney Yee stuff on youtube.

I need to get my ass in gear I have been training on and off for ages just never go all out, like "this is my goal I want this". It isn't a complete life style choice with me but then some days I get frustrated with progress that is all my own doing!

Joined the local KISS gym about 2 months back as it is now closer to my house and I go past it on the way home, was also over half the price of the one I use to go. However some things about it really bugging me now.

The squat racks are horrible, impossible to do lunges in it like I could before due to the frame.
Squatting with no shoes on is hard work because of the height the bar hooks back, I am just a little bit to short to hook it straight back on comfortably with no trainers.
The floor is spongy as well so when you have no trainers on and squat your heels sink into the floor, really weird and not good.
The benches for pressing are horrid as they use the squat racks as also the bench press, find myself sliding along the seat and hooking the weights on and off is again, annoying.

On the plus side they do have a range of kettle bells so some shoulder workouts with them are actually quite nice.

Just go a catch lower for the squats, not ideal, but better than tip toeing,

Lunges in a squat rack? Presumably you are using the bar bell?

Bench press is ghey I agree, might need to find something to stop you from slipping...?

Yeah the lower catch will have to do but that seems much lower so will be odd at first lifting straight from there and putting it back.
Yeah I use (well did) the barbell, squat rack at last gym was perfect for it as it allowed me to step back and have the room to do it. Theirs are much smaller and I am not even going to attempt it.

Are you a member at a KISS gym? For the price it isn't too bad I think because I trained for so long at once place and I was happy with every thing there this one is just new and different.

Not a member no but I trained there over Christmas. The racks are a bit odd when you first use them, just be careful not to lift the bar too quick upwards otherwise you might hit the catches above :o bit annoying
