That's because it's in a smith machine ;) joking.

I presume its only an up and down smith?

Well, yeah partly that. I want a BW squat ATM. Which when you weigh nothing is much easier xD but I want the weight on the bar rather than including the bar because its a bloody smith. And yeah, it is only an up down one. It's weird.

Mind you, had to wait to use it today, and did a set of goblet squats with a 24kg DB. Not at all challenging, but interesting from a balance perspective. Might try using goblet squats as a drop set in between the smith squats. Not sure yet. Don't want to move away from the program too much....

I'll be looking for a belt soon probably. Would like to wait until February though for a finance perspective... Apparently at 15 on first set I should throw a belt and 1.25kg on... Although, might wait until I can do 15 on all sets (3).

Ahh okay :) Goblet squats are good, especially good at working the core as well.

Is there nothing at all you can place a barbell on or something? try and see if they will buy some naff squat stand or something :p

Anyone have a back routine they like and feel like sharing? I kind of swap and change mine about but it would be something like

Deads either 5x5 or 12/10/8/6/6
Wide grip chins 3 x failure. No belt at the gym so I just do as many as I can
Bent over rows 3 x 12 (quite like doing them underhand grip)
Low cable rows 3 x 12
Then some trap exercises although not a fan of DB shrugs, use to like doing them on the calf machine as it rested on the shoulders.

Think I am going to try and time my rest period between each set and keep it between 60-90 seconds and up my intensity.

Gym shorts can anyone recommend a decent pair?
Been cutting around in x large jogging bottoms since October and are too big now.
I don't want to get another pair either as i sweat to much, would have worn shorts before but i have massive tree trunk legs.

Would be nice to find a decent pair of 3/4 lengths that are pretty but cant seem to find any.

Unfortunately I think it's by design rather than anything else.

Anything I could in theory try it off is placed against a wall. This would be included stuff like the bench wrack, which you can't really try it off :p Probably more likely to cause issues than anything else.

I feel like they've been sucked into the 'Smith machine is better than free weight' choice, because there's no way they don't have enough money for a squat rack.

The cardio section is about 5 times the size of the weight section, and that's not including the 'machine section' which is about the same size as the cardio section. In fact to be honest, I just think they much prefer machines to any free weights in general.

If you want a machine... We've got it.

I did consider writing them some kind of email/letter, but for the sake of the 5/6 months (maximum - more like 3/4 realistically) that I've got remaining at uni, I might as well stick with the smith, and maybe switch over to gob squats at some point (or a combination of the two).

Go to livi centre, walk into Adidas or Nike - pick a pair of shorts!

Snatch and clean = traps and back of the gods.

Erm... It's slightly more complicated than that. :)

However, try looking up clean pull on YouTube and you'll see why they make a back awesome.

On a slightly more serious note, only try snatching if you're being taught by somebody that knows what they're doing. Cleans are almost as good, but there is a much, much greater margin for error, and a significantly lower risk of something unpleasant happening. Check some of the videos in my log fr some "what not to do" examples of snatching gone awry. :)

Speaking from my own experience only, you don't need a belt for body weight squats do you? This is coming from a man with an infamously pants core!

I would have thought a belt would be necessary for pretty hefty lifts, especially if you're using a smith.
