*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

DL were:
Ice - 220 G, 240 G, 250 F
LiE - 220 G, 240 G, 255 G
Dom - 200 G, 215 G, 222.5 F

Not sure if that's a Pb for LiE. But yeah, he seems to have been on fire. For a first comp, that's absolutely epic.

Pretty sure they took 1/2/3 though.

There's also apparently a natural guy weighing 89 who's openers are 330 squat and 240 bench

kd

Opening with 240 unequipped would make him one of the best benchers in the world?!

If he's been keeping us updated then yeah all PBs.

LiE --------------- 150 / 185(B)+ / 240(B) -------- [81] ------ 575

That's 2013 PB:

Lifetime pb is here:
LiE -------- 160 / 200(B) / 250(B) ------ [82] ---- 610

But yeah, still seems like a Squat and DL Pb :)

Opening with 240 unequipped would make him one of the best benchers in the world?!

FF was the one supplying the info :S Weight might be wrong though. The rest of the people are in the 120 class.

Had a funny one at the gym today, went for medium weight high reps.
Bench Press:
15 x 40
12 x 50
12 x 50
10 x 55
8 x 60. Failed on the 8th. Didn't have a spotter so a feeble cry for help was needed haha. Confidence destroyed.

I think I just about have the energy to put together a little meet report. I don't know how interesting this is for you chaps, but here it is anyway!

First of all, I want to say how awesome it was to have FF, Steedie and Delvis come and support us today. Really appreciated, as I know it can be a bit of a long day. Absolute pleasure to meet FF too!

And even though I didn't see it, thank you all for cheering us on over the interwebs :)

Right, onto the absolute shambles that was my competition!

Weight was fine, even managed to have a bit of breakfast. I didn't seem to have any tightness due to weight loss, but my shoulders weren't feeling great - not that this situation is new to me! "Guts" didn't seem to fair so well... :o:D

Squats

Warming up I was feeling really good. Not as tight as I'd been feeling for the past few weeks, moving really nicely, depth fine when I thought about it. Chatted to Dom about how to potentially structure my lifts to get to 230kg (lol!) given my opener of 200kg. We all set up to take our last warm ups. Dom unracks 160kg, but as he's about to squat I notice that he's actually meant to be on the platform already :o:eek: I get him to rack the weight and run onto the platform for his comfortable opener. Despite the fact that I knew I had to lift very soon after Dom, I couldn't skip my last warm up (160 --> 200kg, no thanks!). So I did a really rushed (and thus probably high) 180kg and hurried to get ready for the platform. I don't really know what happened next, it all happened too fast. Step onto platform basically straight after my 180, unrack the bar - hmmm this is feeling really heavy, I need to make sure I smoke this... Bosh, done, very easy. What? Failed for depth?! The faces of the guys I train with are enough to tell me that I cut it MASSIVELY high.

It seems that training around my emerging quad injury by squatting higher (stopped it from hurting) had screwed up my default squatting pattern, and because I was rushed I wasn't thinking about what I was doing. I'll get it for my second attempt... Nope! Confidence was shot, and also I'd now forgotten what depth felt like :/ At this point I also realised that I was massively bloated from fluid in my stomach, and I actually wasn't even bracing my core

Everyone was being very supportive, but I just felt like a ***. Got 200kg for my final attempt comfortably, but by this point I'm feeling pretty embarrassed! Silly, silly mistakes.

Bench

Wasn't feeling entirely optimistic about bench today anyway, but after the squats I had to push down my disappointment and sense of impending terrible performance :p

Warm ups were good though, despite the warm up bench having the bar REALLY low. Shoulders tried to complain about this, but I successfully ignored those useless ****s

1st attempt was just... gash. I set my feet up badly so my leg drive pushed my arse off the bench, and also had a rubbish hand off. Feeling terrible at this point, just wtf.... 2nd attempt was fine, 130kg on the board, feeling slightly less like a bell end. It moved well, so I thought I'd go for my planned next attempt at 140kg. No lift, failed it right off my chest. I don't really feel too disappointed, it just wasn't there on the day. Why it wasn't there is another matter. Gayness, probably.

Deadlift

As I said to LiE, this was the one I really cared about today. I've never had deadlifts go even slightly well in comp due to various injuries, so I wanted to get something respectable. I wasn't hoping for anything huge, after my hamstring tear I'd only pulled over 230kg in the last few weeks.

Warm ups were decent, but I was feeling pretty tired in general. Last warm up was 200kg, which moved nicely.

Opener of 220kg was comfortable, but I didn't feel like my technique was dialled in and as a result it wasn't as fast as I've done recently. 2nd attempt of 240kg was better, kind of felt like I could have done at least 3 reps with it. 250kg next (to be conservative! :o), but again it just wasn't there on the day. Slight twinge in my right side glutes/low back, but I think it was just fatigue. Again, I don't feel too bad about this. Whatever I pulled today was always going to be limited by my hamstring recovering from the tear, so this is where it's at for the moment.

Finished with a 570kg total @83kg which, as disappointed as I am with it, is still a 40kg PB at this weight in competition. +10kg on squat and bench, +20kg on deadlift from the comp last June.

So yeah, pretty terrible! All I can do is channel my frustration into my training, and make sure I remain injury free so I can sort my **** out (no injuries since November is already approaching PB territory!). Next week is going to be a rest week. Well, kinda. I've asked Steedie to spec me a 1 week bodybuilding programme :D It'll be enough of a change in stimulus to recover, and I'll get to lift in a vest...

I still had a great day. Good to see all the OCUK chaps, and as usual I was impressed by the calibre of sportsmanship and friendliness of everyone from the competitors to the organisers.

I'm very pleased for LiE too, he had a fantastic first comp. He could have had a couple of kg more on a few lifts, but for a first comp it's awesome to get all 9 attempts. I don't know if everyone realises how exceptional his performance was today, but yeah, it really was!

Fuark that was long.
