I considered Leg Press Ice, but does it really give me any benefit over the current system? (we have a horizontal leg press, where the seat moves, rather than the 'conventional' kind)

Yes, in addition! Leg press allows you to add some load that doesn't rely so much on your stability (functional movements have their limits, particularly for pure hypertrophy). Just do deficit BSS first.

Legs love volume.

I'll add them in if I have time. My workout with stretching and mobility is normally already getting close to two hours (which usefully tend to be the time between the lectures on days I go to the gym). Don't ever think I'll be looking at hypertrophy for my legs though as a side point :p

Ah that's fair enough then.

Legs are the coolest body part to hypertrophy though, and also the least gay (followed by your back - science).

Not all bad news then.

I'm off to see the PTI tomorrow so I will raise the issue with him then. If the welfare committee can fork out £1k's for pool tables, xbox and plasma screens they can consider some better gym equipment. I will kick up a stink otherwise. I'm leaving here in a month but I will no doubt be here again so....

If its where I think it is, you should defo speak to them as no doubt I'll be there soon!

Weights bay up the stairs?

No squat rack in a military gym is a complete joke, I bet they have a ton of bloody machines though.

We have a new gym getting built (weights bay) with a new crossfit type thing put in a few months back. . Ring dips, monkey bars, a rope to climb etc. (like at Cosford but much better). I'm sure if they can put it in here then there's no excuse.

Question for you guys, on legs day I will squat (obviously) out of the next two which should I add in too if any?

Hack squat machine
45 degree plate loaded leg press machine?

Or something else!

Cheers.

Bulgarian deficit split squats, goblet squats with pulse, walking lunges, offset reverse lunges. RDL'S

all good additions to legs day

Wtf is all this pulse talk all of a sudden? I've never heard anyone talking about it until the past few days. I thought it was just autocorrected "pause" at first.

It's like a 1.5 rep.

Squat deep, go back up half way (although I'm not quite sure on quite how high up, but tend to go to legs are at 90) then back down deep and then up, 1 rep done.

Yeah I understand what it is, but why the sudden bummage? It's like I'm reading it everywhere all of a sudden.

Goblet squat with pulse = goblet squat and push the KB forward (i.e. pulse it) until arms are straight, then bring it back in and stand back up.

Sports Arena is worse than 15 year old girls for flavour of the month.

Hilarity ensues as everyone realises they were doing it wrong .

KBs have their place. However people need to be focussing on the main compound and barbell movements. However, KBs and alternative exercises are fantastic for single leg/arm stability and core development.

Welcome to the world of strength and conditioning. It really is the case all over the world that people behave exactly like that, insisting that someone is wrong when they supply some new information and then if it starts showing promise they all turn around and love it instantly :).
