I'm not convinced he has 'stepped up'; he hasn't magically got twice as good in the space of 4 weeks, he's been a great player for a while now and just gets more of a platform to showcase his talents at Barca.
 
Cesc got way more assists for Arsenal because we based our entire system around him. Barcelona don't really base it on any one player, but if they do bias it towards anyone, it's Messi, not Xavi or Iniesta.

I think Fabregas is a brilliant player, but to say he's better than Xavi/Iniesta because he got more assists last year is like saying Manuel Almunia is a better player than Messi because he made more saves last season. :confused:

Now obviously both are clearly fantastic players before anyone thinks im saying otherwise but they have excelled within a structure of greatness if that makes sense. Rooney has carried us at times which is why i would maybe rate him higher. I think Xavi and Iniesta have always had genuine world class in every position around them and therefore will always look great (thats not to say they arent, i must point that out again!).

I would say the same applies to messi. He generally looks his best when playing for barca. That is not too diminish any of them, all 3 are key components of the way barca play, and the style of football is naturally based around their skills. Taken out of the context of barca I dont think any of them would look as good.

Imagine either messi or ronaldo being dropped into a team like Sunderland. I could easily see ronaldo being top scorer in the premiere league, I am not sure messi would have much of an impact, and I certainly doubt he would s ore many goals.
 
I think it is harsh to dismiss Messi ever doing well in the Prem. You use Sunderland as the example, would Ronaldo really score a lot of goals without having Rooney, Scholes, Giggs, Tevez etc passing to him. You could say the same about Messi also without having Xavi etc but until he comes to the prem we will never find out and its ridiculous that Ronaldo is for some people better than him because he did great in the Premier League.
 
No I just think that because of ronaldo's physical ability -strength,pace,height etc he would do well in pretty much any team.

Messi is technically a more impressive player, and along with the likes of Xavi and I iniesta, he has helped create arguably the best team ever/best playing style. I just think it is a bit of a collaborative bubble- they compliment each other well and won't look so good when stuck with players of a lower standard.

I totally agree.

Messi is obviously a genius. So is Ronaldo.
 
Is it even possible to compare the likes of Vidic or Riena or De Rossi to the likes of Messi or Ronaldo or Silva

Just because a g/k or centre half cant show the same type (or frequency) of flair in their natural possition doesnt make them any less of a player to the obvious (and more boring imo) choices

The rest of the players where i would prefer Surez to the rest that have been said here apart from thee spanish MF(xavi, inesta and Cesc). Rooney, Augreo , Tevez etc

Simply because unlike the others Surez has shined at the top where Messi and may i also add Ronaldo have somehow failed to shine. That is at the WC and Copa America/Euro--
