The Acer ONE Thread

Got XP on it now, haven't had too much chance to play around with it yet though.
Certainly took a while to install, and to install updates, so slow write speed could be the cause of that I guess.
Still, I've moved the swap file onto a fast SDHC card, so I don't think it will be a major issue.

loving the laptop. really struggling with the OS though

i've only ever used windows and it's doing my nut in.
Yeah, I've heard using Windows has that effect on people :p;):)

email client doesn't synch fully with exchange.
no obvious way to connect to windows network

it's going to take time and patience to get to grips with this...not sure i have much of either tbh
Not sure about the Exchange problem - does it connect at all or simply refuse to even speak to the server?

However, for connecting to the Windows network you need to use Samba - which is basically a *nix version of the Server Message Block protocol, also known as SMB (hence the name Samba ;)), that Microsoft uses in Windows network file system. There are plenty of guides available on t'interweb for configuring Samba.

Another day, another week and another month have passed and my preorder still hasn't turned up.

I'll give it a week before I ring them, next Friday (5th) or the Monday (8th) after that I'll give them a call again and try and see what they're playing at :(

Can't you wander into Purple Shirt Land, pick one up for £200 and cancel the order? I so very nearly did that the other day, until I remembered I'm saving for a holiday...

I could do but I could actually do with the cash at the moment, but come next month all will be fine and if they're not doing something about it I'll order from elsewhere :)

So in a way you hope they dont ship it and charge your card then :)

ha, yeah guess thats right :)

I've got the cash, so if it gets shipped tomorrow that wouldn't be a problem.

It's a case of that I don't want them to ship it because I'd like to keep the money, but I want them to ship it because I've waited so long for my new toy to arrive now :p

My patience has paid off :D

It's arrived :D

But I'm at work :(

Just been told it'll be dropped off at work in 30mins though... *jumps up and down excitedly*

Ooooh I've got a new toy YAY :D

Had a little tinker for 30 minutes or so, very impressive!

Boot time is very quick, the little games on it are a little gimmicky and Open Office isn't limited at all (exactly the same as you'd get from a regular Open Office download).

I couldn't seem to get it to go online though (wired connection), had to set the network settings up manually but still no luck :(

Like I said only a quick 30 minute test so I didn't go into it much. Everyone in work was gathered around and wasn't very interested with network settings :p

Best laptop to buy

Friend is looking to buy a laptop for about 200-400 pounds, he was thinking about the Acer one, but I said maybe the voxtro might be better cause its cheap and ive heard it good value.

Good anyone give anymore information on what would be the buy, or make any other suggestions.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Cheers,

First post from my Acer Aspire One :D

Loving it so far, battery at ~2 hours could be better but I'm very impressed with it over all!
