The Acer ONE Thread

When I was trying to update the firmware, it crashed and now I can't seem to open messenger or other applications on the connect bit, the Firefox programs work but the others like messenger and rss reader just don't open. Power manager on preferences also does not open. The function and up key should also increase volume but this also doesn't work.

These were all working before I updated and it crashed. Do you think I need to restore already?

Not upgraded the memory yet then :)

I originally purchased it so I could use it whilst on my travels, but I've just started dabbling in OpenOfficeBasic so I may need to upgrade the memory if I think the performance starts lagging.

Pics?

Whats the Webcam quality like?
These only have a 0.3MP camera don't they?

There are plenty of pics around the interweb...unless you want a pic of it with bread.
I don't use webcams, so for me the quality is fine. :p

What firmware are you talking about?

Just the update thing when you to go preferences, then live update. So I suppose it is updating software, not firmware. Might have to just use the recovery CD to get it back to factory settings? What is the current update and how do I see what I have now?

Yeah its just software.
I can have a look tomorrow to see if there is anyway of telling any versions. - Just had a look, I cant see any obvious version information other than bios, so no help to you I am afraid,

I would just run live update again to be sure before doing a recovery on it.

I love these small laptop ideas, but one thing that always annoys me is the HUGE, THICK border around the screen. It makes it look tacky, old and cheap.

What do you guys think?

And what's the deal with having the border a different colour. It should all be the same :/

The black border helps with the screen definition, and I dont think it looks tacky.
Also with a machine so small you need a decent width around the screen to give it some rigidity, I dont think there are any issues.

I think it would look better smaller but then the webcam and stuff might not be able to fit in.

I solved my updating problems by doing a restore, everything is great with the One now :D

Sooo, tempted to get one of these for use in testing peoples wireless networks with, what's the Linux version like for connections to wireless and wired networks?

I've had no problems connecting to my own protected and unprotected networks and I can even connect to to networks across the street which is about 30-40 meters away. It's a very good wireless reception.

It really does have a good wireless range on it.
I use it for some of my work, and wireless pentesting works fine, I have only had two occasions when I needed to use my Alfa 500mW adapter.
