The Acer ONE Thread

Is there anyway off getting back the orginal Start menu/panel. I seemed to have deleted it in Panel manager and now this has stopped me connecting to the internet and other things.
Is there a factory default setting?

Time to create your recovery USB Stick I fear.
Its a simple process though, so not much to worry about.

Only known problems are the DVD can be a bit picky about PC it runs on. It didn't work on either of my two desktops but OK on my laptop. Also it doesn't work on every USB memory stick.

The actual process of making the USB stick is very simple, as is the restoration.

For more help search for aspire one forums. I (and dalepearson) are one of them that has a sub-forum devoted to system recovery.

I dont have a link handy at the moment, but this is the general process.
If you have a USB CD / DVD drive, plug this into your One with the restore CD in place, boot the One and press F12, and then follow onscreen instructions to restore.

If you dont have a USB CD drive, then go to a machine that has a CD / DVD drive, and boot from the CD. You will then need a 2GB USB Pen (1GB doesnt always work), you then create a recovery USB pen to restore your One to its factory settings.

The restore process takes about 25 mins. Hope this helps.

When I did it on my PC with 2 hard drives it wiped the secondary hard drive, this has also happened to at least 1 more person on the acer one forums. I would say make sure you do it on a PC with one hard drive, other than that its a simple process.

Seriously considering picking up one of these they look great, I am looking at the 1gb ram/120gb hdd version on linux. Any advice for/against this version against the others. The only reason I want the larger hdd is to store my music on it. Also if i end up really not getting on with linux (although I can't see why I wouldn't get on with it) would there be any problems with installing xp on it?

I'm waiting for thr AOA150-1447 version, with the 160GB HDD and 6 cell battery. I have no idea when it will be released in the UK though, anyone have any ideas?

Ordered the one that I posted previously.

White 1GB RAM, 120GB HDD with linux.

Extremely excited about getting it. What extra applications do people recommend?

Blue or White, I can't decide.

I'll take the best of three posts stating colour choice and get that one.

Blue owner here, it looks fantastic :)

Taken it to work a few times and it easily draws a crowd of people going "oooh what's that!?"

oops, got in too late!

I've had both and in my and my family and friends opinion the white looks allot better, Doesn't suffer with finger prints either and it's a real bonus having a propper hard drive and being able to use windows xp without pauses. The fans also quieter :)

On the bright side you could always return it under distant selling etc. and get the white ;)

What I really wanted was the brown one but I don't think that exists in this country.

Don't get me returning stuff again, allready sent a Dell M1330 back as I decided it was too noisy.

Now im seriously considering one of these. The blue linux 8GB SSD model, i plan to use it for anime / films etc on the go aswell as internet and other such things.

Now should i wait for these price cuts / updates? or buy now. also is the extra £20 or whatever it is worth it for getting the extra storage and losing harddrive speed?

And how hard is it to do the memory addition, say 1gb stick added to a 512mb model?

cheers
