The Acer ONE Thread

That really big supermarket chain has these in and thought i could save some more by getting me some points with them but alas they only stock the white 8GB SSD version which i cannot have as the blue is tooooo nice.

Yeah I saw that too, but they had a pricing discrepency near me. They were charging £249 for the 512mb 120gb hd version (it should be £230), which was on a big display with loads of units. I asked the electrical guy if he had the 1gb version and he came out with one and it scanned at £248!

Anyway hold out for the blue version firthy it looks so much nicer.

Yeh, 20p in points or whatever it is was not enough to sway me :D. Even though i hate giving money to purple shirt land it seems they will be the supplier of my nice new BLUE one.

Now to wait till Wednesday till i get paid, guess i better get my server set up.

Just took delivery of my Acer One and typing on it now :)

What can I say its rather amazing, very snappy and quick enough for me. Will give a proper review when I've had it longer than half an hour ^^

Wicked Duroxis glad you like the 1.

How are Aspire users finding the battery life? My gauge seems to be playing up a bit in Linpus. The manual says the battery takes a few charges to realize its full potential and I've only charged it up twice. It says 87% time remaining = 2:12, then it will say a bit later 83% 2:21 mins left.

I think i guess it must adjust itself depending on how much power its using i.e if its using a few programs open all at the same time obviously the power will be eaten up faster than just one program in use. Ive used mine most days this week without the charger and its got a good 3hrs out of it.

Thought I'd add I installed XP on it this morning without any problems at all :D
First time lucky or something like that- If anyone needs any help etting it to work feel free to drop me a message

Hey, i have a new aspire one (120gb 1gb ram, linux version) and i've been trying to install xp without much luck. Keep getting Bsods after following really complex instructions about how to get it to boot of a usb drive.

Did you follow a guide? if so do you have a link? Thanks Tom.

*EDIT

Finally got it working, realized i was trying to install a service pack 1 version, and so slipstreamed sp2 in and it worked a treat.

Just now installed vista and it runs pretty well. Very happy with it now. :D

Just a little tip for anyone expiecing problems with the backspace button and shift+backspace not "Going Forward" or "Going Back" (instead of using the back/forward buttons) in Firefox with the One.

Load up Firefox, and type about:config into the address bar and agree to any prompts that appear.

Then type "backspace" into the filter (without the quotes obviously), and you should see...
browser.backspace_action = 2

This needs to be changed to a 0 to let you press backspace to go back pages in your browser.

Thought I'd post this as it's been a little annoying thing I've had since I got my Acer Aspire One and I think it's purely because it uses a really old build of Firefox.

Changing that, and it's browsing as usual :)

OMG :O

Found the one at a big highstreet store website for £180 for the 8GB SSD linux 512mb version :O

Even more epic is that because i work at Coral i get 10% off there aswell :D

Only downfall is they only have the white version, so im currently deciding is ~£37 worth having the white one.. and im thinking yes.

Just ordered one myself, was going to go for the highstreet one, but I want to run windows and the SSD just makes that a world of pain by all accounts.

Still a popular online site was selling the 120gb version for £209 all in which is pretty sweet.

And whats wrong with white? Thats what I went for, think it looks better than the blue myself.

I think the blue is way better.

Seems they wont let me reserve it on the site for the one close by only the one on a 40mile round trip -.-.

Going to ring my local shop soon see if they have any and if they take the new scheme my works offering for discounts there.

Anyone know if I could use my 360 HD-DVD drive has an external DVDrom to install software? I hear these laptops will support 3g soon. When it is avalible will the earlier Acer aspire one support it or would an entire new Acer aspire one model be needed to be purchased? I hear the current ones have a blocked off slot for a sim now so I assume the old ones will be upgradable.
