The Acer ONE Thread

i am going to wait i think as i want an ssd but 8gb just 2 small and as intel are shipping duo core atoms i think its only matter of time till the netbooks get a lot more powerful or the less powerful ones get a lot cheaper :D

How easy is it to install XP on one of these?

I am thinking of getting the 8GB SSD Version with linux and putting XP on it. I can get the 8GB SSD linux version for just over £200 with 1GB RAM and an 8GB SDHC card. :)

Rumour has it that XP does not run to well on the SSD variants of the ONE....apparently the SSD speed is not up to much ?

I thought I read that was the 16GB version? And surely the SSD must be faster than the hard drives..?

Has anybody got a 8GB SSD that is running XP?

I have heard the SSD is rather slow compared to the HD version but there are plenty of guides on the Acer Aspire One User forum on how to speed it up

Hmm well that sucks, I remember my original Eee PC being really fast due to its SSD.

The interweb tells me the poor SSD speed is due to there being no driver for XP...

Do the purpleshirts have the XP versions in store I could go and have a play with?

I put XP on just to see how it would run for a mate. VID

As mentioned the write speeds cause issues in general, and this just becomes more apparent in Windows OS. There are various tweaks that can be done to make it better to live with, but if your planning on running Windows, I would say get the standard HD version.

Is the SSD still adequate for linux, assuming you are doing standard web browsing, creating documents, etc ?

Has anyone seen the 160GB 6 Cell versions for sale in the UK yet?
I see people in the US are now receiving them and numerous places are listing them as 'in stock'.

I put XP on mine and the boot time is fine. It;s not quite has fast has Limpus Lite but I don't mind the small trade off for better driver support. ( I have the 120gb version with 1Gb DDR2)

Yes the SSD is more than adequate for linux.

Does anyone know when onelinux is getting released?

Apparently there has been some serious setbacks with the release, and things have taken a fair few steps back.

As with all OpenSource, just need to be patient, as people are using spare time to make these things possible.

Firefox Problems in Linux Lite

I have just bought an Acer One running Linpus Linux Lite v1.0.7.E. I'm totally new to this OS. My problem is that Firefox 2 loads up as though it is the first time every time - with the Wecome to Firefox page. I can't change my home page and can't add any bookmarks. Does anyone know how to solve this? I have no idea how to remove and reinstall it, or how to install Firefox 3 as an alternative. I've tried the Acer One forum, but no one can help.
