The Acer ONE Thread

Seen the Linux 8GB/512MB version at a large supermarket chain for £180. Is that enough RAM to run ok, or should I get the 1G version?

There'd s code to get it down to £170. Also you get s £10 e-voucher. Another £5 via quidco.

edit: returning mine after 1 day, keeps crashing when trying to do anything within connection manager. Ive completely updated the acer and so am out of ideas.

AFAIK Asus only supplied them with early batches. Some of the later batches (in USA/Canada) come with a different sleeve (opens on the long edge) that will fit the AA1 when it has the official 6-cell battery.

The original sleeve (narrow edge opening) is rubbish anyway. It's not easy to insert or remove the AA1 from it. However it does protect the AA1 from scratches if you have it in a bag with other stuff.

Got one last week, 120Gig & 1G ram & linux. Fits great in my most of my bags I use for work. Have installed xp, swapped out the wireless card for a intel 802.11n and have a touch screen waiting to go in. Most probably do a usb hub too. Really like it, very pleased.

Is the intel 802.11n better? Easy to fit?

Gives you upto 300mbps if you have the ap or router to support it. Its really easy especially if you don't fit the 3rd antenna - a direct card replacement just plug it in. You need to take the screen apart to fit the 3rd antenna but thats not that difficult either (it may even be ok behind the keyboard, haven't really tried it).

It will work without the 3rd antenna but you won't quite get the full performance will probably be stuck at 54mpbs albeit more stable and consistent.

Great fitting guide here

I have read that the Acer Aspire One A150X Blue N270 1GB 120GB 8.9 has been discontinued. Does anyone know what will replace it? Is it just a bigger HD model 160GB?

Cheers

Saw a blue one in Currys in the Strand branch today. Looks real sweet. As an additional treat I managed to set off the alarm when I lifted it up to check the weight :)

Is the 8GB SSD version with 512mb going to be sluggish if i put games like Total Annihilation/ GTA 3 / FM 09 on it ? Would stick in another 8GB SD card (does that just expand the hard drive total in windows ?) Read bad things about the write times and worried about putting XP on the cheapest version of this laptop :(

ALSO.......

Anybody who may be interested a certain supermarket chain MAY be offering the 120GB/1GB Linux version in white and blue for £199 next week.

I will speak to PID when I'm in work later and find out of it's still going ahead and if it is selected stores or not.

:D:p;)

That would be awesome, please keep us informed.
I can't decide on the one or an eee, but that would definitely swing it :P

Hi, I would deffo be interested in hearing if this is true about the £199 price next week, as I came close yesterday to get one from my local supermarket that are selling them, but thought I would hold off a few days. Then I read that it might be dropping, so glad I waited now. Hope it is true.

I was all set for one of these but the Samsung NC10 is looking sweet now. Larger hdd. Bluetooth. 6 cell battery.

Has anyone on here successfully changed the SSD to a laptop harddrive ? How would I secure the hard drive in place of where the SSD was ? sticky tape ? or does it fit snuggly ?
