The Acer ONE Thread

I ordered white, because I couldn't see the blue.
Cancelled and ordered blue once I'd found it :)

I thought that in the shots the blue ONE looked a lot more like a finished product, like one review said, "it definitely doesn't look like your kid sisters first laptop" (compared to the EEE) and the ONE is definitely "something you could happily whip out in a coffee shop" :)

I've always though that the lower model EEE PC's had a slightly childish feel, so I'm kinda pleased I've found a netbook that looks a little more grown up whilst still keeping the whole principle of netbooks... small, cheap, portable laptops! Which some of the new models of EEE's seem to have forgot.

I can't wait to have my ONE now though, shame they're not even slated for release until the end of the month :(

On little side note, my own worry with these is their supposedly low battery life. 3 hours isn't brilliantly long compared to what other netbooks or just general laptops are achieving these days.

I may see if I can pick up a replacement battery on the cheap somewhere and shove one in there that'll last 5-6 hours hopefully.

The price has increased ! NOOOOOOO

Not showing an increase here?

Which version have you preordered?

My Acer Aspire One 8GB Linux in Blue is still £199.99, checked the site and my account

edit:

Actually, it's now changed on their site... but my account price has remained the same :) Still says preordered @ £199.99

Was just trying to find this guess I was a little too late.

Nvm I guess I'll just wait till more of the mini notebooks come out, I hope one with an ARM process gets announced since that would mean 8+ hours battery life

with the £30 price increase i think i'll wait untill the black ones come along untill ordering, even with the higher prices :(

Defiantly will be getting one of these :D It’s ideal to carry around! Just hope it’s nice and quiet.

Yeah it shouldn't be that noisey (presuming you're after the SSD version anyway).

The atom's run very cool apparently so that shouldn't be a problem either!

Can't wait for mine to turn up.

Yep got a Vaio that is my main laptop so a huge spec isn’t needed, just something very portable, the SSD will be the one I’m after :D What concerns me is little fans inside laptops can get loud at times as you say the Atom runs cool so hopes its nice and quite :) I’ll think I will preorder mine if I can as they will probably sell very quickly once launched.

The links show an Acer Aspire One being dissasembled (anyone else this short circuit there for a second?). This confirms 512 DDR2 soldered to board. SSD looks replaceable but requires fully dismateling the system. Done some more research and it looks like the maximum RAM configuration ('till a BIOS update I presume) is a 1 GB DDR2 Module + 512 MB Soldered.

As I mentioned earlier, hopefully the onboard RAM can be disabled in the system BIOS (Again, another update that may come to the BIOS if not in the original). This would allow RAM and SSD failures to be repaired.

What page are we looking at? I cannot see anything let alone understand it.
