The Acer ONE Thread

How are you liking the Linux OS on the basic model mikeossey?

Mine is still sitting next to me unopened as I may take it back tomorrow and get the 120gb version. Still not sure what to do.

Great really Ive had it since Friday and think its fantastic, i know i dont need the 120gb version and if i use the mem up on this i have an 80gb ext drive anyway, i would probably update the ram to 1.5gb in the very near future. I guess its upto you want you want from it, I wouldnt be going upto XP so this is perfect.
You have a lot of patience i couldnt get my coat off quick enough when i got home with to get it out the box!!

The OS is "ok".

Installing Apps is a pain - but I will eventually get the hang of it.

re: Cases

It's not a neoprene bag. It's a simple fake leather "sleeve" that stops scratches. It looked like a mousemat in the lid of the asus box! Bought mine from the well known online store that used to just sell books and CDs. Cheaper than purple shirt place by £12 (or 5%)

Hmm, birthday on Tuesday and got some money to play with. Tempted to get one of these. I'm wanting the 1GB/120GB version though in case I want to stick XP on it.

pcAnywhere

I would have gone to that jungle type store but i needed one quick, as im away this week and wont be in for delivery and would like to take the acer with me so just punted for the cheapest they had in worked pretty well its called 'The Second Skin' kinky!

OS works fine BTW no troubles!!

Was looking at the 120Gb model with 1Gb RAM looks ok to me. Seen at a certain big supermarket selling XP version for 269 or 249 with linux.

Now whats the battery life on these like? And I take it once I stick XP files on a mem stick and it'll just boot from it and install?

Well I opened the 8gb SSD version and I'm glad I did. But, does anyone know anything about the first charge how long it should be left for and if the battery should be fully discharged a few times?

The first charge only took 20mins is this right? Its still on charge now though I might leave it overnight maybe.

I got mine on Friday evening and left it on over night and im getting about 3 hrs from the battery ! Glad your liking the Acer Warren you have more patience than me!!

Mine came almost fully charged too warren and took only 20 mins. On average it takes about an hour to charge back up, you will know because the charge light turns green to tell you. As far as I know it's best to cycle the battery a few times when they're new, so I would fully discharge it praps half a dozen times yeah.

Haha yes I know what you mean. It wasn't easy with that thing sat on the floor all weekend I could hear it calling me!

Anyway I just weighed up what I wanted out of the machine and I decided that the 8gb ssd version was for me. Yes the 1gb 120gb hd is very good value and not much more money, but I wouldn't use the storage. I don't want an install of windows. I'm not intending to take the One out anywhere so loading the hd up with films and my entire mp3 collection isn't what I'm looking for - besides the speakers on the thing are crap, which I knew already.

The thing is great! I really like the look of linpus and I've enabled the advanced mode so I can install my own apps on it. For £199 its a bloody marvel.

Its definitely an eee pc killer if you ask me.

Quite sad there is no 1GB 8GB Linux version, would prefer a little more than the standard 512mb without having to perform a RAM upgrade.

Anyone know if these will ever be available?

As soon as i get paid off to purple shirt world to get me a 8GB SSD linpus version, cannot wait.

Going to pop it straight into advance mode, put VLC / teamspeak / Emulators etc on and play around waiting for onelinux or ubuntu to get their act together sorting a new os for it.

Also need to sort an old amd socket A system into being a wireless router for it as my house is all wired.

Just placed order of my 120Gb 1Gb RAM Blue linux version :D Set me back 249.99 hoping it will be worth it :D

I think you'll be happy with it its a great bit of kit. Well happy with mine, I'm even getting to grips with the track pad now. I take it you'll be putting XP on it?

Cool. I'm looking forward to onelinux - hope it runs well on 512MB. Not really cared if it does or not as I'm very happy with Linpus and its 15 second boot time!

Im not sure, I wondered would having XP shorten battery life? As I bought it for uni and thats my main concern. Comments anyone?

That really big supermarket chain has these in and thought i could save some more by getting me some points with them but alas they only stock the white 8GB SSD version which i cannot have as the blue is tooooo nice.
