*** The all new iPhone 4 thread - Keep all iPhone 4 stuff in here ***

If you haven't updated the phone, the battery life shouldn't just change randomly unless you've got several things syncing you didn't have before, or if its faulty.

There are reported battery issues (they dont affect everyone though, strangely) on the newer firmwares so are you sure you haven't updated it by mistake? :p

No, I avoided any update because my handset seemed stable and there were known issues with the later releases of firmware, plus I was thinking of jailbraking at some point. Wi-fi and 3G are turned off and I've reduced the brightness levels. Although I've connected to iTunes a couple of times in the last week I don't think anything has been altered apart from a few app updates.

my phone keeps displaying the overheating warning , even when im not doing anything on it.

can i send it back via courier or do i have to pilgrimage to the apple store and speak with a 'genius' ?

4.3 was terrible for battery life on my iPhone4, it wouldn't last the day. 4.3.1 appears to have fixed the issue and it's back to the usual 2-3 days.

Well after having my iPhone 4 since release the battery life is now making me want to sell it! I'm on 4.3.1 jailbreaked. I feel like I did when I was younger when I had quick car but didn't drive it fast as it cost me money, with this iPhone I'm just disabling everything and trying to not use it as much as I'll kill the battery!

I started using it today at 7:45, listened to some music, sent a couple of texts, wrote this message on Safari (without 3G) it's now 8:06 and the battery is down to 90%. I'm on a course all day so wont get home until after 6, I presume I'll have to tiptoe around the phone trying to conserve battery life somewhere. Awful.

I've had my iPhone 4 for about 6 months now and I'm currently using 4.1 which isn't jailbroken. Anyway, my battery life over the last week or so doesn't seem to last as long as it previously did even with light use. My battery dropped 10% in 7 hours whilst I was in bed. I asked a colleague whether he noticed if his battery was draining quicker and he agreed that over the last week or so his battery wasn't lasting as long between charges.

Is anyone else seeing a similar reduction in battery life?

Any electrical device that uses Li-ion batteries will lose battery capacity over time. It's one of the big disadvantages of Li-ion cells...

Probably a very simple one but does anyone have any idea why any video I record on my iPhone 4 is completely silent? It is as though it is muted.

When recording a video, I have tried having the phone on both silent and loud mode by using the small switch on the left hand side just above volume buttons. It makes no difference.

It has been like this for awhile but I recently had my phone replaced and I can't remember if the sounds ever worked with this new one. The old one definately did work as I uploaded afew vids with that.

Anyone else had this problem?

No, that sounds like it's faulty unless you're covering the mic (near the 3.5mm jack iirc).

I didn't even know there was a mic there! It was indeed covered, but fixed now and all sorted. :) I had an invisible shield put on my replacement iPhone 4 as soon as I got it, front, back and sides. Prefer that over a case. :)

sounds broken to me

ive been on 7 hour bus rides where i have played music for the full duration , browsed the web (3g)and played games for a few hours , ive then got to my destination and made calls , sent texts etc and the battery has still lasted from 7am to 11pm

with normal use i always get over a day , always.

id suggest un jail breaking , i was obsessed with sbsettings but im sure it wasnt even helping me

oh and the last 20% always seems to last far far longer than the first 20%

I have found the battery life one of the best things about the iPhone 4. I have 3G and Wifi on all day, never turn either off. I use the phone throughout the day, the odd short calls here and there, txt msg'ing, browsing the internet etc. From 8am in the morning @ 100% I normally get back from work at around 6pm and I am on ~50%. If I have used it a lot I may be as low as 30% and if I haven't used it much I'll be around 70%. I easily get a full day out of it and with light use I can get 2 days.

My pop's bday coming up and i'm looking to get him an IP4. Now if I were to buy a BNIB sealed one off fleabay (locked to t-mob) with whom is the 12 months warranty? apple ot t-mob.

And does it matter that I bought of fleabay? and that I'm not the original owner?

Anyone doing PAYG with their iPhone? My old phone has finally crapped out and it's my birthday next month, so thinking of treating myself to the iPhone 4. I've been looking at getting the 3 PAYG sim and buying the phone direct from Apple.

Apple is who the warranty is with....

and it can be a pain in the bum. Whenever we get a suspected hardware fault on a work phone the network refer us to Apple. We've got to send one of the lads out to the nearest Apple Store which wastes rather a lot of time. Any other handset the network collect and repair/replace using a courier.

I had it but then it fixed it self after quite some time, still no idea what happened.

Had the iPhone 3 since it was released last year, Thursday night put it on the side like i do every night then got a message so picked it up pressed the sleep/wake button then crunch the rubber seal went thats under the button and it sunk into the case, Could still be used if you spent a good while pressing it :(

Popped down to apple Friday afternoon showed the genius the phone then 5 minutes later walked out with a new phone =D

Can't fault the service at all, it's service like this that makes me want to take out the extended apple care just in case anything happens again, but having had the phone since release and having previous iPhone's I've never really had any problems.

Original iPhone no issues at all.
3G iPhone , got chocolate in the speaker when it was out of warranty cost me £140 ish for a replacement.
iPhone 4, Sleep/Wake button died replaced under warranty =D

Dad was impressed with this service and after playing with his iPad2 he's thinking of swapping from a nokia N8 to an iPhone, i might get him to wait so i can get him a white one then swap it with mine ;)
