********** The all new "Official" iPhone 4S thread - Keep all the iPhone 4S stuff in here **********

I thought orange was a one of £10 charge for new sim.

Anyway just cut it down.
You can print of a template and cut with scissors. Or you can buy a proper sim car cutter of the bay for under £5.

Orange biggest rip off of the century????

Ok so i called Orange and asked them to send me a micro sim, "no problem" the lady replied, "that will be an extra £10 per month on top of your existing £35"

How can this be correct? I am not asking them to subsidise the phone i'll buy that out right. I asked why i would have to pay more per month as she said it was because you will be moved to there iPhone servers.

I said that i would just cut up my sim card then and she said i would still end up being charged an extra £10 as this system would know that my sim was in an iPhone i explained that i had never seen that reported on line before to which she explained the online community was not in the know!!!

Any ideas how to get around this??

Just cut your SIM :)

Wow, the specs are just so underwhelming, I was expecting at least an increase in the CPU speed and screen size but no, just 1GHz, the SGX543MP2 really is the only stand out feature on this thing.

Also still with the that 3.5" screen?! No thanks.

I'll wait for the Galaxy S II HD or even the Note, Hell the Quad Core phones/tablets will be released soon. Clearly Apple is happy to continue losing market share to Android

Also 64GB storage is nice but there are 64GB microsd cards, it’s very nice of Apple but it really was the least they could have done, in fact that’s the impression I get from the iPhone 4S in general, do just enough to stay in contention with their competition. Why design a new phone when your loyal fans will just buy the same one with a few internal upgrades.

Must save them a ton.

Oh dear.
The a5 is better than tegra2.

And what exactly are you going to use that qaud core for. It isn't need in the slightest. Anyone upgrading from a ip4 or sgs2 or similar is pretty mad.

They aren't losing market share at the top end of the market which is where they compete mostly as far as I know.

Isn't the flash memory (NAND?) they use a lot faster than MicroSD cards?

Think this is what i will do although slightly worried by the lady's claims that they will know and add the £10 charge anyway

The CPU's used on both are the same, the only good thing about this phone is the GPU which yes is allot better than the Geforce ULP on Tegra 2.

Tegra 2 is old, Tegra 3 will be here soon with Quad Core goodness. :D

I've said it a million times and ill say it again, whats wrong with "only" a 3.5" Screen? its a damn phone! I like the fact it fits easily into small interior pockets, something that Dell phone (and future Samsung ones) can't/won't manage.

"just" 1Ghz? its 2 cores running at 1Ghz which is more then enough power for anything you could want to do on a phone.
Whats the point in a quad core 1.5Ghz processor, loading all apps instantly, when 1/3rd the speed achieves the same thing, is smaller, uses less power and thus means a smaller battery can be used keeping the phone size down.

Then there's the GPU which afaik is still the most powerful GPU used in any mobile currently?

Mobile hardware over the last few years has dramatically increased and will now slow down / plateau completely, i expect the more noticeable improvements over the next 48 hours to be software/OS based

.

And a battery life which is terrible (Even by modern phones standards), or a battery the size of a small planet.

And why is it goodness? Your going to waste money on something that is totally pointless. U till new software comes out which would take advantage. Of the speed increase. Which looks unlikely in the near future.

Serious question. Other than e-peen, what are you going to gain from quad-core?

But like I said I'm not bothered in the S bits so that's £70 more for things I don't need. Isn't that 'pretty pointless'?

Yes and no, you keep your phones for a long time by the sounds of it, so future proofing for the next 3+ years seems worth it for a little extra.

Bit underwhelming really as keynotes go but I think it's easy to forget just how much of a vast update the iPhone 4 was last July. It brought so many new features to the table and many hadn't even been picked up by the media at all beforehand. Stuff like the Retina display, a front facing camera, facetime, a flash, gyroscope, incredibly nice design, etc etc.

I don't see much point at all upgrading from an iPhone 4 to a 4S. As people are saying, this seems to be a bit of a placeholder for Apple until later next year when no doubt they will announce a meatier upgrade.

I'm way more excited about iO5 anyway and always was. Running iO5 on an iPhone 4 will make it feel like a brand new device imo (notification centre etc).

One change which went under the radar a little bit, its Bluetooth 4.0 enabled..
Means that the new MBA's (and i guess future MBP's / iPad 3) can be tethered unto 50m's away to share your phones internet access, and it adds next to 0 additional battery drain.
